First trimester
Changes in Baby -During the first 8 weeks the
baby is called an embryo

More changes in baby

• The baby looks like a tadpole
• On day 25 the heart begins to beat
• At the end of the first month the embryo is ½
  long and weighs a fraction of an ounce
• The brain begins to form in the second month
• After the 9th week the baby is referred to as a
  fetus
• The fingers and toes grow nails
• You can hear the heartbeat after the 10th week
  with an instrument

-The baby releases urine in the amniotic sac
which is removed through the mothers
circulation -The reproductive organs begin to
form in the 11th week -By the end of the first
trimester the baby looks human

Second Trimester Changes In Baby- -The baby can
now hear your voice -It moves, kicks, and
swallows -At the end of the 4th month the baby is
6 to 7 inches long and weighs 5 ounces -At 16
weeks the baby has fingerprints -The fetus opens
its eyes at week 20

Second Trimester cont.

• -Sensitive to light and sound at week 24
• -By the end of 6 months the baby weighs 2 pounds
  and is 14 inches long
• -The baby can share emotions with the mother
  after 6 months
• -The baby begins to taste and smell what the
  mother eats

-Belly starts to show -Heart burn -Forgetfulness -
Back pain -Mother feels the most energetic during
this trimester

Third Trimester

• Changes In Baby
• Baby gains half its weight during this trimester
• Making faces, kicking, hiccupping, and crying
• The fetus can regulate its own temperature
• Produces its own red blood cells
• The fetus urinates half a liter a day
• The pupils can now dilate
• Skin is now pink, not red in color
• Smaller movements as it gets crowded in the womb

Changes In Mother
-The uterus expands 1000 times its normal
size -The mother experiences - tired belly
muscles - leaking - hemorrhoids - clumsiness
