3 Step 1 ESRTW the Standard

4 Step 1 ESRTW the Standard

X Company will offer early and safe return to work to all employees.
ESRTW will be incorporated into the Health Safety Policy.
The purpose is to assist injured workers with modified or alternative work as part of the healing process.
5 Step 1 ESRTW the Standard
? Does it use the minimum legal standards as a starting point?
No worker will be forced to return to work against the advice (Functional Abilities Form) of the attending health care provider. The worker will perform meaningful work that they agree to and that will not aggravate an existing condition.
6 Step 1 ESRTW the Standard
? Does it set company policies, rules and expectations?
All forms must be completed and returned to the employer prior to return to work stating the limitations.
7 Step 1 ESRTW the Standard
? Does it identify who should work on this standard?
The worker will discuss with their supervisor the nature and extent of the work.
The worker will be encouraged to arrange all medical appointments or physical therapy sessions preferably 1st thing in the morning or late in the afternoon.
An X Company representative will be in contact with the injured worker at all times following the injury.
Management will review the standard annually.
8 Step 1 ESRTW the Standard

X Company will refer to the Form 7 FAF for this standard and will develop a Letter to Attending Physician as well as a List of Modified Work Tasks will be developed
Assistance will be obtained from WSIB whenever necessary.

11 Step 2 ESRTW Communication

Employees will be instructed of the importance of form completion and its return to their supervisor or head office as soon as possible.
Supervisors and management will inform injured workers of the modified work activities and schedule as soon as possible after receiving the completed functional abilities form.
Supervisors will review progress daily with injured workers.

This policy will become part of the New Worker Orientation Policy. The procedure will be reviewed annually with all employees at a tool box talk and any changes explained at that time.
All supervisors will conduct safety meetings and toolbox talk sessions with work crews to explain the policy, purpose and procedure for early and safe return to work.
This will include a review of the Functional Abilities Form and how it is used to provide modified work.
14 Step 2 ESRTW Communication

Quarterly, proper use of Form 7 and other ESRTW forms will be reviewed by management for understanding of the process
A safety talk will be held 1 month after original training (and annually) to review employees understanding and re-train if necessary

All Supervisors will receive training in the procedures of assisting workers with return to work.
All supervisors will conduct safety meetings and toolbox talk sessions with work crews to explain the policy, purpose and procedure for early and safe return to work.
18 Step 3 ESRTW Training

Records will be kept of all training/review sessions and all safety talks.

Management will review the policy, its effectiveness and any feedback from employees annually.
Standard will be revised based on above review and any new legislative requirements.
21 Step 4 ESRTW Evaluation Review

Management will obtain feedback from injured workers by way of a questionnaire and ask for suggestions to improve existing procedures.
Management may seek advice from outside organizations or professionals as part of their review.
22 Step 4 ESRTW Evaluation Review

o Has health safety awareness improved in your workplace (show/anecdote)?
o Has employee participation in health safety increased (show/anecdote)?

Management and supervisors at year-end will review statistical results.
Management and supervisors will compare results of returning workers.
23 Step 5 ESRTW Acknowledging Success Making Improvements

In early December, success of the program will be recognized at a special tool box meeting.
Management will recognize successful supervisors at supervisor meetings.
Management will stress the importance of this policy at employee meetings and company social events.
