  (More often in children)

Secondary Fibromyalgia
- occurs when FM exists along with other
conditions such as arthritis. (More often in
adults)

What are the symptoms?

• Widespread pain
• Sleep problems
• Fatigue
• Lack of concentration
• Mood difficulties
• Irritable bowel
• Headaches

Misdiagnosis

• Juveniles having fibromyalgia are sometimes
  diagnosed with
• Growing Pains
• Hypermobility Syndrome
• Arthritis
• School phobia

Diagnosis

• A pediatric doctor, usually a specialist in
  rheumatology, can assess for juvenile
  fibromyalgia
• with
• A tender point examination (5 needed)

Prognosis

• If diagnosed early intervention may help impact
  of JFM on lives
• Some JFM patients having chronic symptoms may
  need more intensive treatment.
• Children more likely to recover than adults

• Medication
• Exercise
• Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
• Sleep
• Nutrition
• Maintain school attendance (adaptability)
