The Ontario Application Process
  • All Applications to OCAS
  • Ontario College Application Service
  • Application cost - 95
  • For 5 programs no more than 3 at any one
    college
  • Additional programs are not possible
  • All applications are done on-line
  • At home or in Guidance
  • Application due date February 2, 2009 for equal
    consideration with all applicants (even if your
    arent starting until January 2010
  • Should be done before Christmas holidays

  • You must have an e-mail address before you apply
    (it should be suitable)
  • Check it often after you apply
  • This is OCAS and the colleges favorite way of
    communicating with you

  • October
  • Demographic information
  • Final marks of completed grade 9 to 12 courses
  • First and second semester courses you are
    currently signed up for
  • Community involvement and literacy test info
  • February
  • First semester final marks
  • Update semester 2 courses
  • April
  • Second semester mid term marks
  • July
  • Final second semester marks
  • Proof of graduation

Admission Date
  • All high school applicants will hear their
    admission decision on or after February 2, 2009
  • The applicant must respond to an offer of
    admission by May 1, 2009 or lose their spot

Admission Requirements
  • Different programs and colleges have different
    required courses
  • English, Math and Science
  • There are recommended courses as well for each
    program
  • Admission may be based on
  • All grade 11 and 12 marks OR
  • Only marks in the required courses OR
  • All grade 11 and 12 marks with the required
    courses counting more.

Multiple Offers of Admission
  • You may be offered admission to several or ALL of
    your 5 choices
  • You may only accept ONE offer
  • You must respond to OCAS with the program you
    wish to accept
  • If you accept a second program, the first will be
    cancelled

Types of College Programs
  • Certificate Program 1 year
  • Regular Diploma 2 years Technician
  • Advanced Diploma 3 years Technologist

  • Graduate Certificate must already have a
    college certificate or diploma
  • Bachelors Degree - 4 years University admission
    requirements
  • Collaborative Program - joint education between
    college and university you may receive both a
    diploma and a degree.

Co-op Programs
  • Many programs have a co-op component. This costs
    extra money.
  • There is no guarantee that you will get a co-op
    placement
  • The extra money gives you access to the co-op
    employer list

    the guidance office
