Standing in Line Sentence 1- In one sentence,
get out of the car, into the building, and in
line. My example- After baseball practice one
afternoon, my mother drove me over to Dairy
Queen, told me to get out of the car by myself,
and make a decision on a treat I wanted.
8
Standing in Line Sentence 2- Look at the menu
and all of your choices. Tell me what you are
thinking in one sentence. My example-
Immediately my eyes scanned the choices and I
realized that I had to make a difficult decision-
it would be between the Dilly Bar, the DQ Dipped
Cone, and the Brownie Earthquake.
9
Standing in Line Sentence 3- Look around and
focus on one person in line with you. Tell what
they are doing and give them an outstanding
feature or characteristic so the reader can
visualize them (ex. The little boy with the red
hair and freckles) My example- To my right, a
slight boy with dark brown hair and oval glasses
was literally leaping up and down out of
excitement.
10
Standing in Line Sentence 4- Now focus on an
inanimate object in the Dairy Queen such as
chocolate sauce dripped on the floor, a napkin
curled up on a table, crumbs on the floor, etc.
My example- As I stepped closer to take my
order, I realized that there were some ice cubes
dropped on the floor from a spilled drink that
hadnt entirely been cleaned up.
11
Standing in Line Sentence 5- Now write a
transition sentence that gets you from waiting in
line up to the counter. My example- Just a
moment later, the lady at the counter motioned
towards me and told me that she was ready to take
my order.
12
Standing in Line Sentence 6- Focus on the
person taking the order. Describe them. My
example- The lady at the counter seemed quite
exhausted and agitated with strands of hair
wisping from underneath her uniform cap.
13
Standing in Line Sentence 7- What are you
feeling right now as you are about to make your
decision and order your treat? My example- In
my mind, I was thinking about how I had to make
up my mind fast and avoid the possibility of
being whacked in the face by this disgruntled
Dairy Queen employee!
14
Standing in Line Sentence 8- As you order your
treat, describe what the person next to you is
doing. My example- After what seemed like an
eternity to the frowning woman taking my order, I
ordered a dipped chocolate cone with a crunchy
coating and just then saw the boy to my right
argue with his mother!
15
SECOND PARAGRAPH! Sentence 9- Now write a
transition sentence that moves you from ordering
to waiting for your treat to be made. My
example- After I ordered, I anxiously walked
over to the napkins and grabbed a bundle.
16
SECOND PARAGRAPH! Sentence 10- Look around the
restaurant and describe the inside of the Dairy
Queen. My example- I then realized that it must
have been an incredibly busy day because there
were loads of people waiting (some patiently,
some QUITE impatiently) for their orders.
17
SECOND PARAGRAPH! Sentence 11-What are you
thinking? My example- You know what, I thought
to myself, Being impatient like some of those
people will not help your dipped cone to arrive
more quickly.
18
SECOND PARAGRAPH! Sentence 12-Describe another
order as it goes out with another customer. My
example- Yet I do think I was famished because
my senses awoke when I spotted someone elses
bacon cheddar cheeseburger loaded with dill
pickles, lettuce, and tomato.
19
SECOND PARAGRAPH! Sentence 13- How do you feel
when you see your treat? My example- However,
just after that moment, a man with a bowtie
called my number and I received an absolutely
divine ice cream masterpiece coated in chocolate!
20
THIRD PARAGRAPH! Sentence 14- Why do you
remember this experience? My example- I could
not have been any more excited in Dairy Queen
that afternoon because I was hungry to where I
could have devoured every order on the menu.
21
THIRD PARAGRAPH! Sentence 15- Did you learn
anything, hope anything, or wish anything? My
example- Hopefully, I thought to myself, my
mother would take me to Dairy Queen the next time
I had baseball practice!
