Character Counts

What Navajo Prep will do to take the 6 Pillars
back to campus!
  • Things that will be continued from last year
    group
  • Students will be recognized when they exhibited
    one of the 6 pillars and they will be announced
    in Eagle Period (in front of the whole student
    body)
  • Introducing Character Counts to the freshmen at
    orientation
  • Introducing it to the whole student body

Improvement needed
  • Teachers need to understand what the 6 pillars
    are and how to incorporate them in the classroom.
  • Have an events throughout the year.
  • Keep reminding students what the pillars are
  • Have the teachers/staff nominated by students
    when they are exhibiting the 6 pillars and then
    announce it at Eagle Period.

  • August
  • Will be introducing it to the freshmen
    orientation
  • Will be introducing it to the whole student body
    at assembly
  • Presenting it to the faculty at one of their
    meetings

  • Skits at Eagle Period on the three pillars that
    we decided to focus on for the school year of
    2008-2009

October
  • Responsibility
  • Go to different elementariness and teach them
    about Trick or Treating safety
  • Such as watching where you walk, not getting in
    cars with strangers, not eating unwrapped candy.

  • Citizenship
  • Obtain a list of Native American military
    personnel in Iraq
  • Give each advisor cards for each student
  • Have students write a thank-you for the military
    people and then mail them

  • Fundraise for Character Counts
  • Raffle
  • Make homemade Christmas cards to sell

January
  • Have motivational speaker to talk about all 6
    pillars at an Eagle Period
  • Fundraise have a movie night

February
  • Caring
  • Have a contest with each class competing against
    each other to raise the most money
  • The class that has the most money will win an ice
    cream social
  • The money will go to the Navajo elders

March
  • Fundraising movie night
  • Character counts will have an activity to build
    on the groups leadership skills- such as going
    to ropes course, rafting or hiking.

April
  • Hozho Naasha week which incorporates respect for
    the Navajo culture, environment and selves.

May
  • Wrap up presentation to remind students about 6
    pillars
  • Appreciation dinner for teachers/staff that have
    been nominated for one of 6 pillars.

  • Make sure group stays on track
  • Help ensure group members is displaying character
  • Help group members establish contacts in the
    community.
  • Most of all make sure group has fun!!!!
  • Make sure each month all activities of Characters
    Counts is in parent newsletter.
  • At least one event will have a press release to
    the Navajo TImes
