    during incidents or disasters it is critical that
    everyone know how to evacuate campus facilities
    in the safest and most expeditious manner

  • Provide building occupants with general
    information relating to emergency procedures
  • Know how to report an emergency
  • Take responsible charge of building and follow
    emergency response procedures

What to do in an Emergency?
  • For a fire?

Call 9-911 from any campus phone

Requesting Emergency Assistance from a Cell Phone
  • Dial 911
  • Inform dispatcher you are at UWM
  • Provide address information and nature of
    emergency
  • UWM Police will arrive in addition to other
    responders

  • For Fire?

Fire
  • Alert persons in area of fire
  • Close door(s) behind you
  • Activate fire alarm
  • Direct occupants to use stairs, not elevators,
    and to move away from the building
  • Evacuate through nearest safe exit

  • Keep clear of emergency vehicles
  • If possible report to the designated evacuation
    area for your building
  • Account for building occupants

  • Review and identify the evacuation routes or
    area of refuge for your building

    building chairs to correct fire code violations
    identified by the Milwaukee Fire Department
    during their inspections of campus buildings

    campus general assignment classrooms

Tornado/Severe Weather
  • What to do
  • Determine how you will be notified of a severe
    weather emergency
  • Determine how you can quickly notify building
    occupants (PA system, phone tree?)
  • Identify designated shelter area for your
    building.

Power Outage
  • Identify and prioritize vital power-dependent
    functions, operations, and equipment.
  • Plan ahead for short-term and longer-term impacts
    and needs.

Power Outage/Elevator Malfunction
  • Building chairpersons should check their
    buildings elevators and initiate rescue efforts
    by notifying the University Police, if necessary.

Flood
  • Flooding caused by pipe break, sink overflow or
    other plumbing problem
  • Flooding caused by heavy rains

  • Serve as a liaison between departments and the
    University Police in matters pertaining to
    security issues and policies.

  • Dont prop open doors
  • Account for and secure keys and access codes.
    Dont leave them unattended or give to
    unauthorized persons.
  • Report lost keys
  • Secure all areas when not attended
  • Report tampering with doors, locks, etc.

  • People in buildings or areas who do not appear to
    be conducting legitimate business (loitering,
    etc.)
  • Unauthorized personnel in restricted, sensitive
    or private areas

  • Abandoned or suspicious vehicles
  • Unexpected/unfamiliar delivery trucks
  • Unfamiliar vehicles parked for long periods or
    vehicles where they shouldnt be parked
  • Vehicles arriving and being left behind at odd
    hours
