What is St. Davids Day?

• St. Davids Day is celebrated on the 1st of
  March in honour of, Saint David, in Welsh, Dewi
  Sant.
• Saint Davids Day is celebrated by wearing
  national emblems, a daffodil, the flower of Wales
  or a buttonhole leek.
• Children can wear the national costume.

Who was St. David?

• He was the patron saint of Wales and an
  Archbishop of Wales
• He was a Celtic monk who lived in the 6th
  century.
• He spread the word of Christianity across Wales.
• His influence is shown by the number of churches
  dedicated to him

How do the Welsh Celebrate St. Davids day?

• Schools celebrate by holding singing concerts,
  in Welsh eisteddfod
• Reading of poetry
• Eating traditional Welsh foods e.g., Welsh
  cakes, Bara Brith (Fruit cake), Glamorgan
  Sausages or Welsh Rarebit!
• Young girls may wear their Welsh costumes to
  school. This costume consists of a long woollen
  skirt, white blouse, woollen shawl and a tall
  Welsh hat.
• More modern celebrations include St. Davids Day
  parade held in Cardiff
