2You are traveling back in time to Elizabethan
England! You will learn what it was like to
live in another time period. Life was much
different. It was a time of royalty, William
Shakespeare, and great literature and arts.
England was flourishing and an exciting place to
live! You and your partner will be assigned a
topic to research. You will become experts on
your topic and will develop a product to showcase
your findings.
3Group 1 Womens Fashions/Hairstyles
- Styles and trends in dress change quickly in
todays society. It is important to have the
in clothes or shoes, hair cut, etc to be part
of the in crowd. We see new trends on
television and in magazines. - In Elizabethan England, fashion was just as
important. You will investigate fashion and
hairstyles of women during this era. - The following questions will help you determine
fashions for the Elizabethan Era. - What is the typical dress for a woman?
- Was fashion different between social classes?
- What were the popular hairstyles?
- What was the preferred hair color?

- Today we are used to having a wide selection of
foods to choose from and places to eat. We buy
fresh vegetables, meats, and prepackaged food at
the grocery store. We use refrigerators to keep
foods cold and microwaves to warm them. This was
not always the case! You will be researching
Elizabethan food. - The following questions will be used in gathering
your research - What are the Typical foods? Make sure you
include meats, vegetables, and fruits. - Did common people eat the same foods as wealthy
people? - What did people usually drink?
- What ways did people use to cook food?
6Group 4 sports and Games
- Television, radio, and video/computer games did
not exist in Elizabethan England! Entertainment,
however, was still very important to people. - Your task is to research sports and games in
Elizabethan England. - The following questions will guide your research
- what types of sports did people play?
- Did common people and wealthy people play the
same sports? - What games were popular?
7Group 5 Music and Dancing
- Radios, Cd players, etc were not invented, but
people still loved music and dancing. It was a
major part of their lives. People gathered
together for music and dancing. - You job is to investigate music and dancing in
Elizabethan England. - The following questions will help you in your
quest - What instruments were popular?
- Where did people hear music?
- What were the popular dances?
- Did common people dance differently than wealthy
people?
8Group 6 education
- Today Every Child in the united states is
entitled to a public school education. In many
states, schooling is required for all children
until a certain age. Boys and girls receive the
same education and study a variety of topics.
This has not always been the case. - You will investigate what education was like in
Elizabethan England. - The following questions will guide you on your
quest - Do boys and girls receive the same education?
- Do common people receive the same education as
wealthy people? - When does a school day begin and end?
- What subjects are studied?
9Group 7 health and medicine
- If you have a cold or headache, you can use
over-the-counter medicines to help you feel
better and get well. In Elizabethan England,
there were remedies for different illnesses.
However, the overall health of people was not as
excellent as it is today. Doctors did not have
the wealth of medical knowledge as they do today.
There were many childhood diseases and major
killers that we have eliminated due to
vaccines. - You will discover many differences in health and
medical practices. - The following questions will be helpful during
your research - What are three common disease?
- What are three common medicines?
- What are they used for?
- What is the lifespan of an average person?
- What are the educational requirements for
doctors?
10Group 8 Queen Elizabeth I
- Countries have different types of leaders. We
have a democracy In the united states. We elect
our president every four years. Any one 18 years
or older may register to vote. Some countries
have a king, a queen, or even a dictator. - Elizabethan England was ruled by Queen Elizabeth
I. She greatly influenced Elizabethan life and
was one of the most beloved rulers in history. - You will research Queen Elizabeth I.
- The following questions will help with your
research - When was queen Elizabeth Is reign?
- Who were her parents?
- How was she viewed by her father?
- What were her greatest achievements?
11Final product/Evaluation
Your group is responsible for a final product.
It will be based on your research of the
questions covering your topic. You will also
make a comparison of 16th Century Elizabethan
life to 21st century life using a Venn diagram
during your research. Your group will decide
what format you will choose for your final
product. You may make a PowerPoint presentation,
a newspaper from the day, a newsletter, a
brochure, a skit, a poem, or a song.
Evaluation of your final product will be based
on creativity as well as the knowledge presented.
