Title: Anger
1Anger
2What Is Anger?
- Anger is a normal, usually healthy, human
emotion. - We all know what anger is, and weve all felt it.
This emotional state varies in intensity, from a
small irritation to an intense fury. - Like other emotions, anger causes physiological
and biological changesyour heart rate and blood
pressure rise, as does the level of your energy
hormones, adrenalin and nonadrenalin .
3Why do we get angry?
- It varies for everyone, some people may be able
to take a lot before they become mad, while
others will become violent over the smallest
thing. - Our anger is often motivated by selfishness, a
lot of people will lose their head if they don t
get their way. - Certain drugs and alcohol can also affect
someones temper - Someone s anger may be provoked by any one of
numerous reasons it all depends on the person.
4How We Express Anger
- We usually express anger in the instinctive,
natural way, which is responding aggressively. - People express their anger in several ways. Some
people may curse repeatedly, shouting at
something or someone. - Others may become very physical wanting to break
something, or maybe break somebodys nose. - Some people may just keep everything inside, this
can create other problems for them socially.
5In the next few slides there are situations in
which people show their anger in several
different ways.
6Here we see someone that expresses their anger by
shouting, maybe even using foul language.
7This little girl is angry probably because she
didnt get her way.
8In these cases we see someone who shows his anger
through physical contact.
9In this situation a hand gesture is used to show
how he feels.
10In this slide there is a drawing from a cult or
gang, that implies that they have negative
feelings toward the police force.
11In this case anger may have gone a little too far.
12Is it O.K. to express anger?
- Anger is a natural, adaptive response to threats.
This allows us to fight and defend ourselves to
when attacked. Therefore a certain amount of
anger is necessary for survival. - But, we cant physically lash out at everything
that annoys us. Laws and common sense place
limits on how far our anger can take us. - Expressing your angry in an assertive
non-aggressive way is the healthiest way to
show anger.
13Final Thought
There are many ways to show anger as you have
seen in this presentation. Anger is everywhere.
It is a very large, but normal part in everyones
lives. Some people just express it more deeply,
or more easily than others.
