  • THE HARMONY OF THE SCRIPTURES

2
  • In the Game
    Stump the Christian, the
World Seeks to Destroy Our Faith by
Putting Us to the Test on Bible Contradictions.

3
Apparent Contradictions are Often Due to Our Own
Shortcomings.
  • Instead of being quick to charge the Bible with
error, we need to first look to ourselves.
  • We all stumble in many ways (James 32a), this
includes our approach to Bible study!
  • Lack of diligence in Bible study.

4
2 Timothy 215 (NASB)
  • Be diligent to present yourself approved to God
as a workman who does not need to be ashamed,
handling accurately the word of truth.

5
Apparent Contradictions are Often Due to Our Own
Shortcomings.
  • Instead of being quick to charge the Bible with
error, we need to first look to ourselves.
  • Lack of diligence in Bible study.
  • Natural mind

6
1 Corinthians 214 (NASB)
  • But a natural man does not accept the things of
the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to
him, and he cannot understand them, because they
    are spiritually appraised.

7
Natural / Carnal Mind
  • If a person has a carnal mind, considering only
the physical without regard to the spiritual, he
    is a natural man
  • When you are resistant to being taught by God and
rely instead on your own human reasoning,
Scripture will be difficult to understand.
  • Contradictions are more abundant for those still
babes in Christ, able only to receive milk
    (i.e., first principles).

8
1 Corinthians 31-3a (NASB)
  • 1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to
spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to
babes in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not
solid food for you were not yet able to receive
it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, 3 for
    you are still fleshly

9
Apparent Contradictions are Often Due to Our Own
Shortcomings.
  • Instead of being quick to charge the Bible with
error, we need to first look to ourselves.
  • Lack of diligence in Bible study.
  • Natural mind
  • Unbelieving heart

10
Contradictions in the Bible can test us and
reveal our heart
  • There are those who use contradictions to justify
their lack of faith in God and the Bible,
desperate for an excuse not to believe.
  • I will not believe until every contradiction has
    been answered to my satisfaction!

11
  • If one error was found and you couldnt find the
answer, would you give up your faith?
  • Of course not!
    (Id sure hope not!)

12
  • If we truly believe the Bible is innocent until
    proven guilty, (error free until
    proven otherwise),
    then any possible answer
    (to a contradiction) will suffice!

13
Maintain a Good and Honest Heart!
  • Luke 815 (NASB) "And the seed in the good soil,
these are the ones who have heard the word in an
honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear
    fruit with perseverance.

14
Our Faith in the Bible Comes from Our Faith in
God.
  • God is all-wise and all-powerful who cannot lie
    (Titus 12).
  • God is not like man in this regard!

15
Romans 33-4a (NASB)
  • 3 What then? If some did not believe, their
unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of
God, will it? 4 May it never be! Rather, let God
be found true, though every man be found a liar

16
Numbers 2319 (NASB)
  • God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son
of man, that He should repent Has He said, and
will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He
    not make it good?

17
  • We can be confident that the words of
the Lord are truth! (2 Sam. 728)

18
Our Faith in the Bible Comes from Our Faith in
God.
  • God is all-wise and all-powerful who cannot lie
    (Titus 12).
  • God is the source of all writings in the Bible.

19
2 Timothy 316 (KJV)
  • All scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
    correction, for instruction in righteousness

20
Psalms 11989 (KJV)
  • Forever, O LORD, Thy word is settled in heaven.

21
1 Thessalonians 213 (NASB)
  • And for this reason we also constantly thank God
that when you received from us the word of God's
message, you accepted it not as the word of men,
but for what it really is, the word of God, which
also performs its work in you who believe.

22
2 Peter 120-21 (NASB)
  • 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy
of Scripture is a matter of one's own
interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made
by an act of human will, but men moved by the
    Holy Spirit spoke from God.

23
Bible Writers Wrote Only the Words God Gave Them.
  • Deuteronomy 1818 (NASB)
  • I will raise up a prophet from among their
countrymen like you, and I will put My words in
his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I
    command him.

24
Our Faith in the Bible Comes from Our Faith in
God.
  • God is all-wise and all-powerful who cannot lie
    (Titus 12).
  • God is the source of all writings in the Bible.
  • Therefore, we believe in the Bibles claims to be
    free from error.

25
Psalms 119142 (NASB)
  • Thy righteousness is an everlasting
righteousness, and Thy law is truth.

26
Proverbs 305 (NIV)
  • Every word of God is flawless he is a shield to
those who take refuge in him.

27
Addressing Apparent Contradictions in the Bible.
  • Rather than get discouraged by apparent
contradictions, they ought to stir us up to study
    our Bibles even more!
  • There is a great joy of discovery in finding the
    truth!

28
Proverbs 21-5 (NASB)
  • 1 My son, if you will receive my sayings, and
    treasure my commandments within you,
2 Make your ear attentive to wisdom, incline
your heart to understanding 3 For if you cry for
discernment, lift your voice for understanding 4
If you seek her as silver, and search for her as
for hidden treasures 5 Then you will discern
the fear of the LORD, And discover the knowledge
    of God.

29
Matthew 1344 (NASB)
  • 44 "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure
hidden in the field, which a man found and hid
and from joy over it he goes and sells all that
he has, and buys that field.

30
Addressing Apparent Contradictions in the Bible.
  • Rather than get discouraged by apparent
contradictions, they ought to stir us up to study
    our Bibles even more.
  • Always seek harmony with the rest of the Bible.

31
  • Instead of setting one passage in opposition with
    another, seek harmony!

32
Dont let prejudice stand in the way!
  • John 145-46 (NASB) 45 Philip found Nathanael
and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses
in the Law and also the Prophets wrote, Jesus of
Nazareth, the son of Joseph." 46 And Nathanael
said to him, "Can any good thing come out of
Nazareth?" Philip said to him," Come and see."

33
Dont let prejudice stand in the way!
  • John 752 (NASB) They answered and said to him,
"You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search,
and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee."

34
  • Like Nathanael, when there is an apparent
contradiction, we need to Come and see.
We need to go to the Scriptures and seek
    the truth!
