• Nail clipper/cutter
• Orange stick
• Emery board/nail file
• Non sterile gloves
• Kidney tray
• Wash cloth
• Bath / face towel
• Warm water in Emesis basin
• Body lotion
• Disposable bath mat/mackintosh
• Gauze pieces/tissue paper
• Over bed table (if available)

IMPLEMENTATION

• STEPS
• Order agency policy
• Explain procedure to the patient
• Provide privacy
• Spread the bathmat/mackintosh over the bed or
  over bed table
• Place the basin with warm water on the bath mat

• RATIONALE
• Patients risk for infection depends on medication
• To win the co-operation
• Reduce anxiety
• Protect bed linen
• To soften Nail thickened epithelial cells

• Soak the finger nails for 10-20 mts.
• Wash hands put on gloves
• Clean gently under nails with orange stick/cotton
  tipped swab
• Wipe the nails with towel
• Clip the nail straight across from inside-outside
  manner and shape the nail with emery board/file

• Softening of corns,callusand cuticles
• Practice universal precautions
• Remove debris harboured micro organism
• Impedes fungal growth prevent masceration of
