Technical Entrepreneurship - IRM
  • The central focus of this IRM is the critical
role of opportunity creation and recognition, and
the entrepreneur, as the principal success
factors in starting and growing a new venture.
  • The main objective of this module is to provide
the student with an understanding of the problems
and challenges facing an entrepreneur in the
    process of creating a business.
  • The key word is process.
  • An additional objective is to convey to the
student that entrepreneurship has a vital and
important social function and career option.

3
Modules
  • This IRM proposes two learning/teaching
activities, a short and a long option.
  • The short option is a typically three day
intensive activity, while the longer option is
    approximately one week.

4
Teaching Learning Activity I
  • Given that the time allotted to these modules is
limited, it would be virtually impossible to
transfer the required skills in that amount of
time. However, what we can do is to inspire
students, get them to begin to thing in a more
    customer-oriented/market fashion and give them
plenty of resources that they can explore when
    they are ready.
  • With this in mind, the students will be provided
with reams and reams of resource material much of
it online so they can access it anywhere and
anytime. This is especially important because the
instructors will not have, for the most part, the
    requisite knowledge base themselves.

5
Teaching Learning Activity II
  • Before each session, the students should be
required to do the reading and prepare for a
discussion. The reading will include both some
literature, but will mostly be current articles
    and real life cases.
  • The instructor should in advance arrange for a
guest (a local entrepreneur) to help with the
topic of the day. The instructor should act as a
    moderator/facilitator for the discussion that
should take place between the guest and the
students. The guest should not just lecture, but
should be prepared to have an interactive
    dialogue with the students.
  • A list of questions that the moderator should use
to drive the discussion (for each class topic)
    will be provided.

6
Content I
  • The content is nearing finalization.
  • It currently includes
  • Several proposed schedules with moderator
    questions

students (including papers and slides from
    experts in the field, etc.)
