  • How to deliver outcomes that matter for students
    ?
  • How to sustain the initiative ?

4
Traditional Structure for Senior Curriculum
  • PATHWAYS
  • Often operate distinctly as groups
  • Little overlap

5
Another Way
Use what suits to get the results Blur
the divide
Student Program

  • Using accredited units

VCE
VCAL
6
What is a Student Program ?
  • Simply a set of studies (VCE/VCAL) that fit
together around a focus linked to employment /
    study e.g. Automotive, Engineering, Fashion
  • This focus could vary from 6 units to 12 units
    out of 24 units.
  • The focus is flexible enough for students to
change their emphasis and keep the credits

Core StudiesEnglish / MathsLiteracy / Numeracy
Recommended Studies on focus e.g. AutomotiveVCE

Student Programs are
Student Programs are NOT
  • Focussed
  • Flexible
  • Linked
  • Straight jackets
  • Too prescriptive

Program Benefits
  • Sense of purpose explicit to students
  • Programs develop strong sense of ownership by
    staff
  • Good basis of engaging others beyond school in a
    more focused manner
  • Allows schools to highlight a range of successful
outcomes, not just ENTER - e.g. of
automotive students went to - e.g. of
    Fashion/Textiles students went to
