4- 1. Welcome and Introductions made-group went
round the room, informing other members who they
were, why they were there, and how they had heard
about the meeting. It is interesting to note that
the majority of attendees had come because of the
following reasons - Went to themix08
- Were members of the youth steering group last
year - Worked and contributed at the mix08
- Had been told by their friends that the mix was
good (for those that didnt attend) Saw the mix
stage line up, and thought I should have seen
those artists. - Part of VAPA or Creative Media (i.e. members)

52. Why are you here? What are your expectations?
And, what are you going to do? The group
facilitators asked the steering group picked up
on the point made in attendees introduction. The
main aim of this exercise was to find out a
little bit about the attendees, and what they
were hoping to achieve from regularly
participating in the steering group. Why are
you here? The group all stated that the reason
why they were here was that they wanted to take
part in. The groups all liked the idea that the
festival was youth focused, and gave young people
an opportunity to represent Southwark. The youth
steering group, or at least these attendees are
under no illusion that there are cash
restrictions for this years events, but are keen
to put their stamp on this years event.

6- What are your expectations? From a young persons
point of view - Put on a better festival than last year, with
more local acts and some BIG headliners (3 or
4)?? - Young people want to take part as steering group
members, and earning workers in the festival - Want a qualification or recognisable accredited
award. - Would like to be influential in the design,
implementation and planning of the mix09, in the
forms of advertising, design and performing
(youth artists) - Promoting
- Would like to learn about managerial skills, and
how to put a festival together - Host the mix stage
- Want the festival to grow, and brand it

7- What are you going to do? (Some general thoughts)
- Meetings are important-Its a chance for you to
say your piece, and stick up for what you believe
in - Commit to attend the steering group
- Promote the festival, either by word of mouth
fly....had a discussion about social networking
sites and their importance. - Regularly attend meetings

8- 3. Issues that the mix should address
- The group felt that there should only be 1 stage
this year, the other stage (live and up...aka
liven up), did not work, it was felt, and the
money could be better spent on working out how to
incorporate elements of that stage, the mix media
tent (talki-oki), and the key to life tent. - The mix-similarly to the key to life tent needs
an area for comedy, dub poetry, rap, and
particularly an area where young people can be
recognised for their achievements. What is
noticeable is that there is keen interest in
putting on a fashion show again. - Choices of music should be more varied also with
additional choices such as - Funky House
- Rock/Indie
- RAP
- Reggae

9- 4. Where should the mix 09 be held?
- It has been mentioned that the mix09, has been
pencilled to be held at Dulwich Park. With the
mention of Dulwich Park the room fell silent. By
this the question was asked why not Dulwich? - Rationale
- Too far to travel
- There is more access and transport amenities for
burgess Park as opposed to Dulwich - Dulwich dont want us in their park
- Where is Dulwich? And how do I get there
- Is the mix too early to move?
- Who asked the young people?
- Other parks were mentioned such as Peckham Rye
and Southwark Park. The general consensus of this
meeting was although Dulwich is not favourable
and Burgess is preferred, it should go to some
sort of vote.
