- Ferrara's most famous image is certainly that of
its grand Renaissance, - the age of splendour of the Estense court, which
has left indelible signs. - Ferrara is included in the UNESCO World Heritage
List, - and has now been chosen as location of the
Italian branch of the Hermitage Museum.
4CLIMATE/CLOTHINGWinters in Ferrara are
moderately cold, with temperatures sometimes
below 0C warm clothes are required. In Spring
and Autumn temperatures range between 10 and
20C, whilst in June it can be 28/30C, and in
Summer daytime temperatures are often over 30C.
TRANSPORTFerrara is well served by the motorway
and railways networks. It lies on the main
Venice - Florence - Rome line. Ferrara is within
easy reach of international airports (Bologna
airpt at 40 Km). Motorway A13 Bologna to Padua
exits either Ferrara Nord or Ferrara Sud
Ferraras attractions and locations can be easily
accessed by bus or bicycleFerrara is
a member of the European Association of Cities

6The origins
Founded in 1391, the University of Ferrara is
one of the oldest in Italy. The earliest courses
were in the arts, theology and law and from the
very beginning it attracted well-known teachers.
These included Bartolomeo of Saliceto, Prince
of the Jurists, and Guarino of Verona, who had

12IUSS Ferrara 1391
The IUSS Ferrara 1391, Istituto Universitario
di Studi Superiori (University Institute of
Higher Level Studies), was initiated in 2005.It
is an integral part of the University of Ferrara,
a sort of mega-center.The IUSSs main objectives
are the development of talents and abilities of
PhD students, the internationalization of the
Programmes of study and Masters, and the
promotion of residence

13The Scientific Centre
The Scientific Technological Centre of the
University of Ferraracombines and rationalises
the teaching and research in Engineering,
Physics, Information Technology and Geology. It
is the site of research laboratories concerned
with three projects of a regional nature. The
complex is also the home of the Centre for
innovation and technological exchange which has
created fourteen new spin-off companies with
forty cases of technological exchange and thirty
seven patents.
