  • Is the only program of its kind in NJ that offers
    a 5 year combined degree.
  • Students can pursue professional studies leading
    to teacher licensure while earning a bachelors
    degree in liberal arts or science as well as a
    M.A.T. (Master of Arts in Teaching) degree.

QUEST Program Highlights
  • Through the QUEST Program, students can
  • Earn a bachelors degree in an arts or science
    major
  • Save time and money by receiving up to 15 dual
    undergraduate and graduate credits in education
    and advanced standing for a masters degree.

  • Obtain state certification in elementary or
    secondary education in English, social studies,
    mathematics, biological and/or physical science
    or world languages and
  • Increase employment opportunities with second
    state certification in high-demand specialization
    areas (special education, world languages, early

QUEST Career Opportunities
  • Provides a variety of career opportunities.
  • National projections show a need for more than 2
    million teachers in the next ten years in all
    grades and subject areasparticularly in the
    northern and mid-Atlantic regions.

QUEST
  • The greatest need will be for teachers with dual
    certification (elementary or secondary education
    and areas such as special education, world
    languages, early childhood, ESL and bilingual
    education).
  • There will also be a continued demand for
    certified science and mathematics teachers.

  • Students prepare for careers as classroom
    teachers with the potential to specialize further
    as
  • guidance counselors,
  • subject area supervisors,
  • school or district administrators,
  • subject area specialists, or
  • child study team members.

Quest Enrollment
  • Students can enter the QUEST Program as freshman,
    sophomores or juniors.
  • Students admitted to the QUEST Program must have
    and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

QUEST Course Work
  • Students must complete 128 credits for a B.A. or
    B.S. in a liberal arts or science major
    appropriate for the area of teacher
    certification.
  • At least 30 credits in education courses are
    required for elementary or secondary
    certification for incoming freshmen and
    sophomores.

QUEST Course Work
  • At least 18 credits in education courses are
    required for incoming juniors.
  • 15 of these credits may be graduate education
    credits which can be applied as dual
    undergraduate and graduate credit to both the
    B.A./B.S. and M.A.T.

QUEST Course Work
  • In order to earn the M.A.T., a QUEST student must
    take an additional 21 graduate education credits
    to complete 36 credits required for the conferral
    of a masters degree.

Quest Program Areas of Emphasis
  • Performance-based assessment and portfolio system
    is used based on national standards for beginning
    teachers.
  • Field experiences are required in various grade
    levels beginning in the first year.
  • Clinical teaching experiences are offered under
    the guidance of master teachers who serve as
    mentors through field experiences and
    Apprenticeship
  • Teaching.

  • Quest students
  • explore diversity through their formal studies,
    projects, and field-based experiences in a wide
    range of school and community settings.
  • are exposed to and examine issues related to
    diversity in languages, culture, race and
    ethnicity, and life styles.
  • explore their own values, attitudes and
    behaviors, and consider the implications for
    their role as teachers.

Quest Faculty
  • Faculty members have doctoral degrees from
    Columbia, Fordham, Rutgers and Seton Hall.
  • Faculty member expertise is broad and many have
    extensive experience as practitioners in public
    and private PreK-12 schools.
  • Most faculty also have supervisory and
    administrative experience ranging from subject
    area supervisor to principal and superintendent.
