1. Clients and multimedia venues
  • Clients compile and distribute multimedia for the
consumer. A well-known client is iTunes
  • iTunes is one of the most popular clients because
iTunes has a variety of mlearning content and
there is no need for additional software to
convert content when transferring to a mobile
device - iTunes does it all compiles, converts,
    and distributes

4
2. Multimedia available for mlearning
  • Podcasts and audio books
  • Video tutorials
  • Audio lectures from universities

5
3. iTunes http//www.itunes.com
  • iTunes offers a complete library of
  • auditory books (MP3 files)
  • university lectures, Stanford University for
    example
  • music and music videos (MP3 files)
  • Movies and TV shows
  • There are other places on the web that we can go
to for multimedia, but often converters and
multiple steps are needed to transfer content
    successfully to mobile devices.

6
4. Terminology
  • syndication - this is a complicating term, but
basically means that someone published something
on their computer and makes it available to
others, as in a podcast - it is distributed
    material
  • subscribe when you download a podcast you will
usually be provided with two choices - download
one 'episode' or 'subscribe' - subscribing refers
to signing up to receive all episodes, this means
if you choose to subscribe to CNN Newscast, you
might be receiving 24 a day because they might
    put their podcast up hourly
  • RSS feeds this is a protocol, or set of rules,
whereby podcasts are 'caught' by a client (called
podcatching clients) iTunes is a podcatching
client - RSS stands for "Really Simple
Syndication". It is a way to easily distribute a
list of headlines, update notices, and sometimes
content to a wide number of people. It is used by
computer programs that organize those headlines
and notices for easy reading - keeps content
    current
