A Note From Mr Gibson
Welcome back for Term 3! I hope everyone had
a good break (not too cold) and are ready for the
Term to come. Its going to be an extremely busy
Term and it all kicks off the second week back
with an excursion and the inter-house athletics
carnival. Good luck to blue house. The theme
this Term is Waste and Water Wise. We will be
investigating ways in which we can be thoughtful
in our use of water and be active in keeping our
environment healthy and clean. By traveling to
Wivenhoe Dam, we will see how water is caught and
stored. Then we will go down-stream to the water
treatment plant at Mt Crosby to learn how the
water is treated for us to use in our homes. The
boys will really discover how important it is to
use water wisely. Parents, the new Home Readers
should help keep track of your sons reading. The
booklet contains some great tips for supporting
and assisting with reading skills. Im looking
forward to another great Term of fun and

Important Information
Students are asked to read for 20 minutes, every
night of the week. Please encourage your son to
complete homework. Homework is given out every
Monday and glued into homework pads. Homework is
due on Friday. School diaries should be signed
every Wednesday. Newsletters will continue to be
sent home on Thursday. Boys are reminded that
there is no play before the 810am bell in the
mornings.

Meet Mr Gibson
This is my ninth year as a teacher and during
this time I have worked in various schools both
in Brisbane and Canberra. My favourite part of
teaching is that every day is different and by
the end of a year I get to see a group of
students who have developed into respectful and
independent individuals. Prior to teaching I was
a registered nurse and worked in a hospital for
four years. Last year I became a father to
Oliver. I love spending time with him and my
wife, Ashleigh. Our dog Pepe, loves hanging
around too. During my spare time I like to be out
doing anything to do with sport. Golf, swimming,
basketball and ultimate disc (frisbee) are my
favourites. I grew up in Sherwood and attended
NJC! I used to swim a lot (trained twice a day)
and represented Queensland for a number of years.

it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife, Whose
judgement upon you must pass. The feller whose
verdict counts most in your life Is the guy
staring back from the glass.   He's the feller to
please, never mind all the rest, For he's with
you clear up to the end, And you've passed your
most dangerous, difficult test If the guy in the
glass is your friend.   You may be like Jack
Horner and "chisel" a plum, And think you're a
wonderful guy, But the man in the glass says
you're only a bum If you can't look him straight
in the eye.   You can fool the whole world down
the pathway of years, And get pats on the back as
you pass, But your final reward will be
heartaches and tears If you've cheated the guy in
the glass.

Term 3 Content
Mathematics We will continue with addition,
subtraction and multiplication, as well as
activities focusing on length, volume and weight.
The boys will need to keep reviewing their number
facts regularly. English Our genre this term
is Narrative Writing. With Book Week in week 7
this Term, the class will be working to enter a
story into the writing competition. Well
continue punctuation and grammar activities, to
gain a greater understanding of the use of
language. During some of these lessons, Mrs
Tewksbery will come to the classroom to assist
with the activities. SOSE/Science Waste and
Water Wise! It will be interesting and enjoyable
We will be looking closely at water and waste
services in Brisbane . Our excursion to the Dam
and Mt Crosby will also be interesting. Japanese
The boys remain in the 4 T classroom for this
lesson. The boys will have a Japanese book to
work in during this lesson. Mr Ramsey teaches
Japanese at NJC. Arigato!

Music The class moves to the Music room for this
lesson with Ms McGeever. This is where we find
out all the musicians in the class. PE Mr
Hawes takes sport lessons. The teacher will
always let the boys know what they will require
for sport. Art Once a week the class will move
to the Art room for their lesson with Mrs Costi.
The lessons will reflect the unit of work being
completed in the classroom. This Term will be on
Waste Wise. Library The librarian is Mrs Peters
and she is always willing to help boys find books
they are searching for. The library is open at
lunchtimes for the boys to read quietly or play a
game of chess. The Book Week competition is on
again and entries close on Monday 17
August. Social Skills This is a special program
designed to help the boys with friendships,
feelings and dealing with situations. Mrs Black
visits the class for this session. Drama Drama
is back the Term. Mrs Black will be directing
here. The drama room is where the Music room is.
Its a long way to the top if you want to drop
and roll!
