Nutritional Status
  • Data not collected by Education dept
  • In case of Uttarakhand, WFP conducted a study in
    2001on nutritional status of children. Report
    submitted in 2004 (latest data available wrt
    state). Conducted a small area estimates for
    three welfare indicators poverty, wasting and
    stunting. According to WFP findings
  • Highest concentration of poverty adjacent
    districts of Rudraprayag and Chamoli.
  • Malnutrition was found uniformly distributed
    across the state.
  • Though not clear cut relation was found between
    poverty and malnutrition at the State level, same
    was witnessed within district.
  • Male-female gap in stunting is less as compared
    to all India
  • Stunting rates are far higher in urban areas with
    no major gap between male and female.
  • In rural areas, girl child is more
    undernourished.
  • Stunting rates are highest in Uttarkashi followed
    by Champawat, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri, Udham Singh
    Nagar and Haridwar.
  • Relation between poverty and nutrition varies
    from district to district

    responsibility of VEC and SMC.

Fund provision for MDM
  • Funding mechanism till March 2005
  • Rs 1/- per child per school day. Cost borne
    entirely by the State Government.
  • Transport charges and honorarium to Bhojan mata
    provided by the State.
  • Food grain provided free of cost by the GoI
  • Funding after December 2004
  • Additional assistance of Rs. 1/- from GoI making
    convergence cost Rs. 2/- per child per school
    day. Rest of the arrangements being same.
