National Crisis
  • The shortage of addictions professionals is a
    national crisis, as evidenced by government
    entities, other leader organizations and the
    Practitioner Service Network (PSN).
  • In response, NAADAC has taken a number of varied
    steps to shift this trend.

The 3 Rs of Workforce Development
  • Recruitment
  • Retention
  • Rewards

Recruitment
  • More focus on recruiting educated, talented
    individuals into the addiction profession by
    outreach and marketing, higher salaries and
    better benefits.
  • Higher reimbursement rates to states, treatment
    centers, third party reimbursement and parity.

Retention
  • Creating new and attractive ways to retain
    workers as a focus, including a friendlier work
    environment and more input into organizational
    goals and policies.
  • Greater staff input in strategic organizational
    thinking.
  • Better facilities, including windows, matching
    furniture, and adequate supplies.
  • Positive reinforcement/recognition in the
    workplace.

Rewards
  • More rewards, and more obvious results-rewards
    link, must be used, including higher pay,
    benefits that include retirement, mental health
    days and other perks that will keep professionals
    happy and in the addiction profession.
  • Clinical Supervision not only Administrative
    Supervision
  • Training Days, either time off with pay or paid
    trainings by the organization.
