The Mission We are a service-based
organization. We strive to organize specific
projects tailored to the interests of
international volunteers to help them understand
and alleviate the challenges of Ghana. The
History Heart for Humanity was inspired by
Glover Ernst, a German volunteer who taught
children math in the Nkwanta community in Ghana.
Ernst encouraged his students to give back to
their communities. After working closely with
Ernst, Ghanaian Paul Badasu (then a student)
organized his fellow students for volunteer clean
up work. Excited by Pauls enthusiasm, Glover
encouraged Paul to extend his volunteer idea
beyond his school community in the future. Those
encouraging words led to the birth of Heart for
Humanity in 2004, now run by a six person board,
including Paul.

Ghana

• Ghana is located in West Africa on the coast of
  the coast. Formerly a British Colony, Ghana
  gained its independence in 1957. Ghana is a
  politically stable democracy and English is the
  official language.
• Despite Ghanas significant progress the nation
  still suffers from poverty levels as high as 30
  and literacy rates as low as 58.
• Ghanas needs include health education for
  prevalent diseases such as AIDS, malaria and
  yellow fever, increased human rights awareness,
  and English education.

Sample weekly itinerary

• Sunday, May 18th
• 800 pm Arrival in Accra. Volunteers picked up
  by HfH volunteers and taken to their lodging,
  registration and payment
• 930 pm Dinner at a local restaurant.
• Monday, May 19th (Orientation Day)
• 900 am Breakfast served at lodging
• 1000 am Orientation with HfH leaders,
  discussion of goals and visions for trip
• 1100 am Volunteers taken to schools to meet
  with faculty and students and get tours of the
  campus
• 230 pm Return to lodging and lunch served,
  followed by down-time in the afternoon
• 700 pm Dinner
• 800 pm Tour of surrounding area with HfH
  representatives visit to webcafe and local
  markets
• Tuesday-Thursday, May 20th-22nd
• 900 am Breakfast served at lodging
• 1130 am Leave for Carol Karl Vocational School
  using public transportation

Saturday, May 24th 500 am Leave in private van
with HfH volunteers for day of sightseeing,
breakfast served along the way 900 am Arrive at
Kakum National Park 930 am Tour and Canopy Walk
at Park 1100 am Lunch Picnic at Park, followed
by departure 1200 pm Arrive at Hans Cottage for
Crocodile Viewing 130 pm Arrive at Cape Coast
and Tour of Elmina Castle 300 pm Exploration of
Cape Coast Beaches and Fishing Towns 430
pm Depart from Cape Coast 730 pm Arrive at
lodging, followed by dinner at a local
restaurant Sunday, May 25th 700 am Optional
Sunday Morning Mass 1100 am Breakfast Served,
then downtime to work on lesson plans 200
pm Lunch served, followed by shopping in
Accra 730 pm Dinner served 830 pm Night time
activity Monday, May 26th 800 am Departure
for home Please note most trips will last
longer than one week, as desired
