  • Support trunk of tree in upright position

Planting Considerations
  • Soil addition of soil amendments
  • Planting depth same level or slightly higher at
    crown (soil level)
  • Spacing distance between plantings
  • Bedding plants, border plantings, shrubs, trees,
    etc.
  • Pruning removal of overgrowth
  • Staking trees, shrubs

Unstaked Tree is Preferred
  • Un-Staked
  • greater taper in trunk
  • better resistance to wind
  • Well developed root system
  • Staked
  • Less trunk taper
  • Susceptible to wind damage
  • Less developed root system

If Staking is Required
  • Use two stake method
  • Make sure prevailing wind blows through stakes
  • Drive stakes at least 18 into ground at base of
    planting hole
  • Use non-damaging tie materials
  • Place ties at proper height
