What is the film about?
This film is about the interracial solidarity of
a small gang of friends who are divided by race,
religion and ethnicity but joined together by the
common bonds of their geographical and economic
isolation. Living a life far removed from the far
away from affluence of the middle-class or
tourist Paris, the three men make a living by
dodging and diving, working small-scale scams
like dealing dope and handling stolen goods.
Kassovitzs' intentions
Mathieu Kassovitz is not so much interested in
inter-racial violence happening in Paris this
is only touched upon briefly as part of a broader
antagonism between young banlieusards and the
police - but on a specific class and generation.
Kassovitz suggests that the problem of social
exclusion is exacerbated by political ambivalence
over racial minorities and unbridled hostility on
the part of the police.

What happens in the film?
This film follows in the lives of three
unemployed young men all of whom live on a
housing estate in a deprived suburb of Paris
The film begins by the three men Vinz, Saïd and
Hubert, mulling over the events of the day
before, when there was a violent confrontation
between the police and rioters
In this riot a young Arab, Abdel Ichaha a
friend of the three men, get brutally attacked by
a policeman and ends up in a coma
Vinz finds a fully loaded gun which was lost in
the riot and vows that is the young Arab dies
then he will take his revenge and shoot a
policeman killing him in the process
The three men spend an evening in Paris where
they want to kill some time and at the same time
they cause a great deal of bother
When they arrive home the following day they are
picked on by the police
This results in disastrous consequences!
