  • Consist of the reason the project was started
  • An inventory management system
  • A customer tracking systems
  • A patient information system for physicians
  • Airline reservations system
  • Tasks facilitate creation of the deliverables
  • Tasks define all the work required

Product scope vs. project scope
  • Product scope defines the features, quality, and
    functions of the project deliverables.
  • For the inventory management system product
    scope may be platform, network type, maximum
    capacity, etc. (i.e. features of the inventory
    management system).
  • Project scope defines the work required to
    deliver the above product or service.
  • For the inventory management system project
    scope may be user interviews, feasibility study,
    prototyping, etc. tasks required to produce the
    inventory management system.
