1Passover to the Lords Supper
Mark 1412-25
2In our text we go from Passover to the Lords
Supper. The Passover is a feast of the Jews
celebrating when the blood of the Passover Lamb
applied to the door posts and Lintel kept the
Death Angel from visiting the Children of Israel
in Egypt. Here Jesus is coming to the last
Passover He would celebrate on earth.
3- THE MIRACLE OF THE MOMENT (vs.13)
- He told them the exact man they would find (one
with a water pot). - This would be unusual (women usually went to the
well). - They didnt have to go around asking everyone if
they were the one. - Jesus doesnt want you to be in the dark or in
doubt. - He will always give clear direction, if we will
listen.
4- THE PRECISION OF THE PREPARATION (vs.12)
- They had to prepare Not decorate, set tables,
etc. (vs.15). - They had to kill the Sacrifice, Cook it, Squeeze
the fruit of the vine, gather the bitter herbs,
and bake the bread.
5- THE PRECISION OF THE PREPARATION (vs.12)
- The instructions were given in (Exodus 121-15).
- The bitter herbs were for remembrance of the
bitterness of the bondage in Egypt. - The Lamb was a picture of the coming Christ (1
Corinthians 57). - The unleavened bread was bread made without
yeast. - The fruit of the vine was a picture of the blood
which was applied to the door post.
6- THE COMPARISON TO THE CHRIST (vs.22-24)
- Here Jesus is inaugurating the Lords Supper.
- His Body (vs.22).
- At Passover the sacrificial Lamb was symbolic of
the coming Christ. - The bread became symbolic of Christs body given
for us. - His Blood (vs.23-24).
- At Passover the fruit of the vine was symbolic of
the blood of the Passover Lamb. - The fruit of the vine became symbolic of Christs
blood (Our Passover Lamb).
