- Recreation
- Southingtons recreation includes Mount
Southington Ski Area with night skiing, nine
parks including a 1.9 mile linear trail, hiking
trails, lakes, streams, rivers and ponds. The
Great Unconformity, a unique geological contact
is located on the Southington Mountain on the
western ridge. On the eastern ridge, mountain
climbing is a common occurrence on Ragged
Mountain. The town has museums, a multiplex
cinema, a community theater group and an active
Parks and Recreation Department offering various
programs and trips. Additionally, the town
shares with its neighbor Bristol, the nations
oldest amusement park, Lake Compounce. - Education
- With a population of over 42,000, Southington
has a town council-town manager form of
government serving the public. Southington High
School is honored with its status as a Blue
Ribbon school of achievement and has an
Alternative Education program and a newly
expanded regional Vocational Agricultural
program. There are two middle schools and eight
elementary schools. The town has several private
schools as well as Briarwood College.
Southington is home to Bradley Hospital, a public
library, four fire stations, and an Historical
Society. An attraction of the town of
