Genes and Proteins

• Genes are long strings of bases on the DNA.
• Each gene contains the instructions to build a
  specific protein.
• It is the proteins that our bodies make that give
  us our traits freckles, brown eyes, blond hair,
  etc.

• Write the complementary RNA strand to the given
  DNA strand
• RNA1 AUGUAAUCCCUCCCCUAG
• Write a 2nd RNA strand that is complementary to
  the first RNA strand.
• RNA2 UACAUUAGGGAGGGGAUC

• Codes are 3 letters long. Break RNA2 into units
  of 3 bases.
• UAC/AUU/AGG/GAG/GGG/AUC
• Find the codes on cards and copy down the word on
  the flip side of the card.
