INTRODUCTION
The prevalance of the cardio vascular
disease is increasing in India. It
has been projected by 2020 cardiovascular
diseases will be the leading causes of
death worldwide. CVD is also responsible for
about 25 of the DALYs lost due to non
communicable diseases in SEAR countries.
IHD accounts for about 40 DALYs lost .
RHD accounts for about 6 DALYs lost .
Other conditions about 29 DALYs lost
.   Thus, increasing no. of deaths due to
CVDs also DALYs lost by CVDs are more.
So it is of great concern to prevent the
CVDs by particularly noting the no. of
deaths caused by particular heart diseases
(ex. MI/RHD/CHD).So we can take steps
against that particular diseases
decreasing the no. of deaths by it
thus overall decreasing the no. of deaths
due to CVDs.

AIMS OBJECTIVES
  • TO KNOW PROFILE OF PATIENTS DIED DUE TO
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES IN V.S. GENERAL HOSPITAL
    FROM 2002-2005JULY
  • TO KNOW AVERAGE SURVIVAL OF PATIENTS ADMITTED FOR
    CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES FROM 2002-2005JULY
  • TO KNOW IMMEDIATE CAUSE OF DEATH OF PATIENTS
ADMITTED FOR CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES IN V.S.
    GENERAL HOSPITAL FROM 2002-2005JULY
  • TO CORRELATE PATIENT PROFILE WITH SURVIVAL
    CAUSE OF DEATH

1.Age Wise Distribution of Cases
  • Maximum deaths occur in the age group of 61-70
yrs 320(25.9) followed by age group 51-60yrs
    264(21.4)

3.Sex Wise Distribution
  • Maximum deaths in males782 (63.47) and in
    females it is 450(36.53)

4.Caste Wise Distribution
Maximum deaths due to CV stroke occur in hindu
patients 750(60.8)

5.Duration of Survival
  • Maximum No of deaths occurred within 2 days of
    admission 423 (34.5).

12
6.Leading Causes
  • Maximum deaths occur due to IHD 530(43) followed
    by MI which is 369(30)

13
7.Sex wise frequency distribution of causes
Maximum deaths occur due to IHD 530(43)
including 345 males 185 females
14
8.Frequency of mortality
  • Trend of mortality in 2002(34.41) and
    2003(34.16) was stable.
  • There is a declining trend of mortality from
    2004(24.67) as compared to 2003(34.16 ).

Summary , Conclusion and Recommendations
  • We conducted the study DEATHS DUE TO
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES from the medical record
section V.S.G.H. Ahmedabad during the time period
    2002 to 2005 (july).
  • Findings of our study were
  • Maximum deaths occur in the age group of 61-70
yrs 320(25.9) followed by age group 51-60yrs
    264(21.4)
  • Maximum deaths in males782 (63.47) and in
    females it is 450(36.53)

16
  • Maximum deaths due to CV stroke occur in hindu
  • patients 750(60.8)
  • Maximum No of deaths occurred within 2 days of
  • admission 423 (34.5).
  • Maximum deaths occur due to IHD 43 followed
  • by MI which is 30
  • Trend of mortality in 2002(34.41) and
  • 2003(34.16) was stable and there is a
declining trend of mortality from 2004(24.67) as
compared to 2003(34.16 ). That means people are
becoming more aware of preventive aspects
    regarding cardiovascular diseases.

17
  • So we conclude that deaths were more common among
in 61 to 70 yrs , males , hindus , and the main
    cause of death is IHD.
  • So preventive measures in the form of health
    education regarding
  • Dietary changes
  • Physical exercise
  • Control of blood pressure and diabetes
  • Adverse effects of smoking and alcohol
  • Identification and advice to the high risk group
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Young woman using oral contraceptives
  • Strong family history
  • Secondary prevention
