FAQs((Frequently Asked Questions)
24
What if I have never played football before?
  • No problem!
  • Every year we have players who have never played
    football.
  • We spend a great deal of time teaching.
  • This ensures that when we play our first game,
  • all of our players go into the game with
    confidence in their ability
  • regardless of their previous football experience.

25
How much does football cost?
  • Football is relatively inexpensive.
  • Registration is 200.00
  • We ask for a 300.00 equipment deposit in the
form of a cheque which we do not cash
  • The Wolverines do not ask for a fundraising
    deposit

26
What equipment do I need?
  • All equipment helmet, pads, uniform is owned
    and supplied by the team.
  • The only equipment you need to supply is personal
gear, like footwear and athletic supporters.

27
When does the season run?
  • You can register now, if you like.
  • Main registration is near the end of April.
  • We will have a Spring Camp in May.
  • Training camp starts mid-July.
  • The season goes from mid-August to the beginning
    of October,
  • with playoffs going into early November.

28
Do you fundraise?
  • Yes, we do.
  • Football equipment for one player would cost us
    over 600 to buy new.
  • We dont have to replace it all every year
  • But registration fees do not cover our costs.

29
  • So ---
  • Heres what we do to raise money.

30
The Howler
  • The Howler is our annual gala event.
  • It is a mixer / dance / silent auction with live
    entertainment.
  • All families are expected to sell tickets for the
Howler and solicit silent auction item
    donations.
  • It is one great party!

31
Grey Cup Raffle Tickets
  • Grey Cup Pool tickets are becoming popular again.
  • Each family is required to sell a book of about
    40 Grey Cup raffle tickets.
  • This is an easy fundraiser and allows families to
purchase all the tickets themselves if they wish.

32
Other Initiatives
  • There may be other obligations such as
  • Concessions
  • Helping out with 50/50 at our home games
  • There is a small number of bingos we ask for
    volunteers to work these

33
Are there many injuries in football?
  • Football is a safe sport.
  • It is a high-impact collision sport, and injuries
    can occur.
  • However, the risk of injury is statistically
lower than other sports such as hockey, soccer or
    lacrosse.
  • Additionally, the Wolverines maintain a highly
    qualified training staff,
  • along with a formal arrangement with a team
    physician.

34
What is my time commitment?
  • Our practice schedule is
  • Start of Camp (Mid-July) to End of August
  • Monday to Thursday
  • 600 PM-830 PM
  • After School Starts in September
  • Monday practice is eliminated
  • Games are played Saturday or Sunday,
  • 8 to 9 games per season,
  • plus exhibition and playoffs

35
But that runs into our family summer holidays.
What can we do?
  • Again, No Problem.
  • Go ahead and plan your holidays. We will work
    around your schedule.
  • Our philosophy is a simple one
  • We believe that there are things in life more
    important than football.
  • Therefore we will always defer to a players
    obligations in the areas of
  • Family,
  • School,
  • and Religion.

36
Tell me about your facilities.
  • Our practice facility is located at Sherwood
    Heights Park.
  • We have a fully-lit practice field, and we use
the Rink Shack for our clubhouse and dressing
    room.
  • We play our home games at Strathcona Athletic
    Park (Bev Facey CHS).
  • Our home park is equipped with lights,
scoreboard, dressing rooms, and full public
    address for each game.

37
I dont want to be a benchrider. Is it true
that your team plays all players every game?
  • Not only is it true .
  • it is a fundamental cornerstone of our
    philosophy.
  • The Wolverine Promise is a covenant that the
    team makes with every player.
  • It clearly states that every player will play in
every regular season and exhibition game.
  • Playing time is determined on the basis of a
players hustle, desire, commitment, and ability
    in that order.
