  • The Sawyers Landing Waterfront Development
    project in Pitt Meadows combines residential,
    commercial and public amenity spaces including
    parks, walkways and a community centre.

Design Principles
  • The Design Principles adopted by Council will
    ensure that the new community centre
  • Is a resource for the neighborhood as well as for
    the whole community
  • Relates to the history of the area
  • Engages the arts village concept
  • Is designed to fit and complement the
    surrounding area.
  • Is designed to have multiple functions
  • Is functional in relation to the plaza (events),
    park/riverfront
  • Is unique and attractive to draw a variety of
    community and economic uses.
  • Incorporates sustainability principles in
    construction and is efficient to operate.

    square feet of floor area

  • consistent with the 2008

  • Median Age 38
  • 26 are under 19 yrs of age, 62 are between 20
    and 64 yrs of age, 15 are 65
  • Total Number of Families 4,565
  • Average Number of persons in families 3

Ethnicity and Language
  • Citizens in Pitt Meadows represent 62 different
    ethnic origins. English, Canadian, Scottish,
    Irish, German and French are the most frequent.
  • While the majority of residents identify English
    as their mother tongue, 35 other languages are
    identified as their first language. Next to
    English, Punjabi, French, German and Dutch are
    the most prevalent.

Parents of young children have told us
  • In a recent neighbourhood survey parents
    identified the following assets in Pitt Meadows
  • The pool and water park
  • Numerous parks,
  • The library,
  • The recreation centre,
  • The dikes,
  • The playgrounds,
  • Various playgroups
  • Accessibility to walking and bicycling and
  • A sense of watching out for one anothers children

  • Grade 67 students have indicated that
  • They feel optimistic and good about themselves
  • They feel safe in their neighbourhood and in
    their school,
  • They feel supported and cared about by their
    school and community,
  • They care about their school and want to do well
    in it
  • 74 of children are meeting the 30 minutes or
    more of exercise most days recommendation from
    Health Canada
  • The same children have indicated that
  • They need to find ways to be useful in their own
    community and
  • They need to find ways to feel connected and
    valued in their neighbourhoods

Consultation
  • Phase one of the planning process involved
    consultation with over 40 stakeholder groups to
    gather information on community needs and design
    priorities.
  • Phase two of the process includes a public open
    house and displays to gather further feed back on
    the design.
