Galatians 522-23

• 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
  peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness,
  faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control.
  Against such there is no law.

Nature of Fruit of the Spirit

• But contrast with works of the flesh (Jas.

• Fruit attitudes and dispositions expressing

Love (agape)

• Active good will toward ones fellowman seeks
  highest good, not ignore or hate

Joy (chara)

• Rejoicing, true happiness not dependent on
  outward circumstances (Phil. 217 44)
• Dependent on ones relationship with God (Jn.
  1511 Rom. 1417 1513 Heb. 1034)

Peace (eirene)

• Spiritual soundness of body, mind, welfare,
  prosperity, contentment grace and peace
• To be found with God, fellowman, and self (Rom.
  51 1218 Phil. 46-7)

Longsuffering (makrothumia)

• Long-tempered, steadfastness, endurance,
  forbearance
• Bearing long in teaching and help without losing
  temper or patience (2 Tim. 42)

Kindness (chrestotes)

• Gentle, mellow, easy (Matt. 1130) calm and
  gentle disposition, not caustic
• Gods goodness to us leads us to be gentle with
  others (Rom. 1122 Col. 312-13)

Goodness (agathosune)

• Uprightness of heart and life seeks the benefit
  and help of others, generous (Eph. 59)
• Opposite of what is evil/bad and mean/grudging
  can be both kind and strong

Faithfulness (pistis)

• One who can be relied on, loyalty can be depended
  on (Matt. 2521 1 Cor. 42)
• Loyalty to God and men (Rev. 210 Tit. 210)

Gentleness (prautes)

• Meekness, mild, gentle not weakness or cowardly
  (Matt. 1129 Jas. 121 1 Pet. 315)
• Longsuffering while patiently confronting sins
  and sinners (Gal. 61 2 Tim. 224-25)

Self-Control (egkrateia)

• Temperance, self-mastery, self-control in all
  areas of life (1 Cor. 925 2 Pet. 16)
• Necessary dominion over ones thoughts, words,
  and actions (Acts 2425)

Is the Fruit in You?

• Crucify the flesh with its passions and desires,
  and then live in the Spirit (vv. 24-25)
• What fruit are you bearing for the Lord?
