Who should attend?
  • Parents of children who
  • use sounds or movements to express wants and
    needs
  • use single words
  • are beginning to use 2 to 3 word sentences
  • do not exhibit a motor speech delay
  • do not exhibit ASD characteristics

Program Format
  • Orientation Session
  • 8 families per program
  • Pre-program home visit and videotaping plus
    language evaluation
  • 8 group sessions 2 ½ to 3 hours each
  • 3 video feedback sessions/home visits
  • Post-program language evaluation

Delivery Model on the IEP
  • 24 hours of parent facilitated intervention for
    one semester
  • Optional ½ hour to one hour of direct speech
    therapy per week
  • IEP to be revisited after 1 semester to determine
    final placement

    cost-efficient manner

    (not very helpful) to 5 (very helpful) - parents
    consistently rate 4 ½ -5
  • Changes on Rossetti children are evaluated on
    interaction, pragmatics, play skills, gestures,
    language comprehension, and language expression
    during the first session, children improved by an
    average of 6 to 9 months

    and therapists
  • Pre-program video tape session

  • Pre and Post interaction/language evaluation on
    use of strategies in the classroom

  • Teachers become more child centered, increase
    their talkativeness, promote childrens active
    participation and turn taking, and use book
    reading as a conversational activity
  • Children of trained teachers talk more, use more
    diverse vocabulary, and use more multi-word
    utterances
