- 17 people were killed, and 515 injured in 1,122
collisions in Oklahoma work zones in 2006. - The number of work zone fatalities in Oklahoma
has nearly doubled since 2004. - In Oklahoma, the most severe collisions resulted
from following too closely, traveling at unsafe
speeds and driver inattention. - To emphasize the need for safety and kick off
this important week, Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry
signed a proclamation declaring April 2 - 8,
2007, Work Zone Awareness Week.

sent reporters to our Oklahoma City press
conference. - The Oklahoman and Tulsa World, the two largest
newspapers in the state, each wrote articles on
the event and on Work Zone Safety Week. - The press release ran in multiple local
newspapers statewide.
