What is homeland security?

• An agency of the Department of Homeland Security
• Priority is to keep terrorists and their weapons
  out of the U.S.
• Responsible for cargo security (all
  transportation modes)

  international suppliers
• Allows CBP to focus resources on lesser-known
  shippers and identify suspicious shipments

How does C-TPAT certification expedite border
clearance?

• Reduces CBP inspections, which means fewer border

• Abbreviation for Status Verification Interface
• Unique number assigned to each C-TPAT participant

Why is the SVI number important?

• To get C-TPAT benefits, C-TPAT-certified
  importers must use C-TPAT-certified suppliers
• Check CBP website to verify a supplier is C-TPAT
  certified

• Voluntary program for highway carriers
  (FASTFree And Secure Trade)
• A program of the Canada, Mexico and U.S.
  governments
• FAST-approved drivers clear the border faster

• Expedites processing of low-risk cargo
• Dedicated FAST lanes at many crossing points
• Fewer inspections for FAST-approved drivers

How does my company get FAST benefits?

• Your company (U.S. importer) must be a C-TPAT
  participant
• Highway carrier must be FAST-approved
• Driver must be FAST-approved
