  • The NHS is the largest organisation in Europe
  • It has more than one million employees
  • It has a budget of more than 44 billion
  • It has 99 Health Authorities and more than
    365 NHS Trusts
  • 50 million customers

    counter fraud and corruption within the NHS
  • Direct responsibility for Strategy, Policy
    and Operations

  • Reduce by 50 the evasion of prescription charges
    by end 2002/3
  • To prevent 9 million of prescription fraud
    perpetrated by NHS contractors and recover a
    further 6 million by end 2001/2
