7The Maryland Military Monuments Commission is
responsible for restoring and preserving our
inventory of approximately 300 memorials
honoring Marylands veterans. This unique state
commission, which is appointed by Governor Parris
N. Glendening and chaired by Maryland Secretary
of State John T. Willis, colonists of twenty
volunteer members who bring military, historical,
business and government expertise to the
important work of safeguarding our states
military monuments.
8Since 1989, the Commission has cleaned and
restored some seventy Maryland memorials. In some
instances, the efforts of the Commission have
extended beond Marylands borders, to memorialize
the contributions.
9 Famous People Good ol Babe Ruth was a famous
3time Hall Of Famer . George Herman Ruth Jr.
(AKA Babe Ruth) played for the Baltimore Orioles
and was signed to the MLB by Jack Dunn. Babe was
in grammar school when he was drafted to the MLB.
At 14 years old Babe was the youngest player ever
to play in the MLB. His specialty was pitching
and batting. He had an arm like a rocket. Now
Babe shall rest in peace.
