Two-Stage Alarm

• Stage 1 (slow pulse)
• Stand by, start preparing to leave, wait for
  instructions or escalation to Stage 2
• Stage 2 (rapid pulse)
• You must leave building immediately by FIRE EXIT
• Note The two stages can be executed differently
  in different areas of buildingi.e., if you hear
  Stage 2, there is a good reason! Dont wait to
  leave!

FIRE EXITS

• Two designated stairways.
• 1) North side by Ikura/Arrowsmith office
• 2) South end by Prive/Rose/Chakrarbartty office
• Use the nearest one (Stair 1 for our space)
• The stairwell by the conference room is not a
  LEGAL fire exit (it doesnt exit to outside) but
  can be used if necessary.

EVACUATION

• Quickly check that nobody is left in rooms
  Designated checkers-Conference rooms
  CBM-Office 901, Interaction Room and Male
  Washroom -Office 805-RadioIsotope Room,
  Microscope Room, Dark Room and Crystal storage
  room-Lab 601, Equipment Room, Tissue Culture and
  Cold Room -NMR suite
• If someone refuses to leave report their
  location to Command Centre

EVACUATION

• Do not use elevators
• Close doors behind you (compartments)
• Note all maglocks will unlock
• HVAC fans shut down (but fume hoods stay on)
• Lighting may be reduced to emergency
• Crossover Floors 4, 8, 12 and 15 (labeled)
• Congregate at designated area (Stair 1 -
  Elizabeth St. parkade across street)(Stair 2
  lawn of TGH)

If you discover a fire

• Exit by fire exit
• Pull fire alarm (beside each fire exit)
• Call 9-911 when safe (notify FD it is real)
• Call Building Security 6161 or go to a Command
  Centre and report1. Main Desk in Atrium, or2.
  Building Services office beside elevators

Fire equipment

• Alarm pull stations at each fire exit
• Fire phone at each exit this calls building
  security. Use only in emergency.
• Fire hose cabinet and fire extinguisherRecommend
  ed that we DO NOT use hose. If you do, remove
  clamp and pull all hose out before turning water
  on or it will kink.
