Closing Statement
  • In conclusion, a policy of laissez faire is in
the long term best interest of a country. In
terms of the economic development of a country, a
government policy that is over regulatory can
harm the growth and development of business. If
the economic policy of a country interferes with
the natural operation of the market than negative
consequences can occur. If left alone, resources
will be allocated where they belong and are
needed. For instance, during the Industrial
Revolution as manufacturing developed in the
cities, there was a movement of human resources
from the rural areas into the cities. This
movement of people helped fuel the Industrial
Revolution. If the government had interfered and
not let people move from the farms to the
factories than the explosive growth of industry
never would have taken place. People were more
productive working the factories making goods
than they were working on a farm raising crops
    for one family.
  • Laissez Faire politics was important in terms of
individual freedom also. The assumption is that
the government need not interfere in the lives of
people who are capable of making their own
decisions. People should be free to choose what
job they do, what they choose to buy, where they
choose to live, just as businessmen should be
free to choose what and how much goods they
    produce.
  • The situations where the government must take
action is when labor abuses are not being
addressed and corrected and to protect the
freedom of competition through the prevention of
    collusion and monopolies.
