Issues
  • 2002 DMAC HD Council charged with recommending
    model language for OPO work plans with hospitals
    regarding efforts to increase consent rates
    across divers population groups.
  • Presented two new standards to the SA Committee
  • Revisions were made and to the new standards were
    sent to all OPOs for review and comment.
  • Standards were approved and formally announced
    during a press conference, January 7, 2004 in PR.

  • The OPO shall review the linguistic, racial, and
    cultural composition of its service area.
  •  The OPO shall identify the unique needs for
    donation in distinct populations.
  • The OPO shall assess the availability of staff,
    services, and volunteers and seek to ensure
    effective primary language communication and
    educational support to substantially sized and
    distinct linguistic, racial, and cultural
    communities, as determined by the OPO.

  • The OPO shall identify and encourage the
    distribution of communication tools to expand the
    awareness of donation and the benefit of
    transplantation among targeted linguistic,
    racial, and cultural groups throughout the OPO
    donor service area.

    cultural groups it has previously identified and
    sought to serve through specific programming

    of High-risk donor
  • Work with CMS to develop a workable Interpretive
    Guidance document
  • Revisit the Declaration of Istanbul and the
    notion of some type of remuneration to a donor or
    the donors family
  • Work with VA on disclosure of info to OPOs
