properties and functions of molecular-scale
components and devices for use in critical future
Navy technologies.
Objectives determine the electronic properties
of single and bundled molecules. Develop means
to measure, to quantify, and to predict these
properties.

• learn to control placement of single and
  bundled molecules into self-assembled monolayers
• use and develop new scanning probe microscopy
  techniques to address single and bundled
  molecules, and nanoparticles
• vary molecular structures and measure
  electronic and other properties of single
  inserted or bundled molecules

• compared chemical contact contributions and
  terminal functional group to transconductance
• developed new means to control film and
  insertion points at the molecular scale
• developed new means to measure optical spectra
  of single molecules
