variety of strategies to acquire information from
    electronic resources, with appropriate
    supervision.

applications to facilitate evaluation of work,
    both process and product.
  • (B) use software features, such as slide show
    previews, to evaluate final product.
  • Activity 5 Students will demonstrate fun
activities that help them remain fit. They will

Adaptations For Lessons One-Five
  • In lesson one advanced students can also try
    instant messaging.
  • Lower level students can use a handout with step
by step instructions. If the student is not able
to type they can record their message.
  • In lesson two advanced students can focus on
researching on the internet and their graphs can
    include all relevant labels.
  • Lower level students can watch the video for
research and their graph can be a pictograph.
  • In lesson three advanced students can use
Kidspiration and try Inspiration and also their
    search can be more specific.
  • Lower level students can focus on Kidspiration
and their search should be more general.

9
AdaptationsFor Lessons One-Five (Continued)
  • In lesson four advanced students can insert a
picture of their family member their writing
    about.
  • Lower level students can type up the information
as a Word document and focus on learning to use
the tools that help them proof-read their
    document.
  • In lesson five advanced students can edit the
pictures or add borders to the pictures.
  • Lower level students can be in charge of
explaining the activities if they are not
physically able to perform the movements.

10
Management, roles, location, and special
considerations for lessons one-five
  • During the activities the students will be in the
computer lab. The students should be monitored
by the teacher and two parent assistants. The
assistants will help keep the students on task,
and will be there to help instruct students and
demonstrate how to use e-mail, Excel,
Kidspiration, Word, and how to use the cameras.
The learners role is to learn how to use the
software, selected tools and stay on task.
Teachers need to consider the fact that students
could possible begin to search the internet, so
they must be monitored closely and have reviewed
all rules ahead of time. Another consideration
is that all students may not understand the
software immediately so there must be enough help
for all students. When doing physical activities
parents must be notified so if there are any
health problems you will know ahead of time.
Digital cameras could also be easy to break if
dropped. The student should be informed on how
to use all technology tools properly. Any
students that misuse the computer will be asked
    to leave the computer.

Websites Essential For This Unit
  • http//www.fitnessandkids.com/
  • This website is a teacher resource. The teacher
can use this site to find out information about
being physically fit before starting the lesson.
This site has article, exercise videos for kids,
activities they can do, kids exercise chart, and
    a food pyramid for kids.
  • http//www.usask.ca/education/ideas/tplan/pedlp/ae
    robics.htm
  • This site can be used to give ideas to add into
the lesson, its good for pre-teaching. This is
a fitness unit done by another teacher.
  • http//www.gameskidsplay.net/
  • This site could be used by the teacher or the
student. There are list of fitness games that
kids can play. When the kids present an activity
they can get ideas from this site. Or the
teacher could have them play some of these games.

Websites Essential For This Unit (continued)
  • http//www.kidshealth.org/index_noflash.html
  • -This site is for kids, parents, and teens. As
they research they can go to this site. It
provides them with articles about their health,
healthy recipes kids love, and they can play
    interactive games about their body.
  • -Also teachers can use this site to help develop
a newsletter. This site has articles about
developments of kids, and how the parents can
    keep their kids healthy.
  • http//www.kidshealth.org/kid/
  • This link is part of the site above it just goes
directly to the links for kids.

    Dairy Council
  • -Hardware Mac, Win
  • -Level Elementary, Middle
  • -This software shows the food pyramid in an
understandable way, and has games for kids to
    play.
  • Pyramid Challenge
  • -Publisher Dine Systems
  • -Hardware Mac, Win
  • -Level Elementary, Middle, Secondary
  • -Using this software the students will compare
their diets to their needs using the food pyramid

14
Technology Tools
  • DVD player-The students can use the DVD player
while they are watching the video on health and
    fitness.
  • Digital Camera-The students can use the digital
camera to take picture of themselves playing
games that promote fitness. They can then have
    them inserted into PowerPoint.
  • Camcorder The teacher can record the students
being physically active. This could be used for
    assessment purposes.

15
The Impact of This Unit
  • This fitness unit will impact the quality of
available technology. Fitness is something that
can be meaningful to the kids. When learning
about this topic technology is integrated and not
just tacked on top of the lesson. The students
are able to use the technology in a meaningful
way. The graphs are a visual for the students to
help them understand the statistics. Inserting
family pictures helps them feel good about
themselves and their family, and learning to type
and send e-mails is going to be very useful to
    their future.

16
Alternatives To Failed Technology
  • If the selected technology fails on the day of
the assignment there are alternatives. When
using technology there must be a backup plan.
For the on-line research assignments you should
supply a numerous amount of books that the kids
could look through for research. Instead of
taking digital pictures the kids could draw a
layout of the activity with the instructions on
the back. The students could talk to a partner
or hand write a journal of their thoughts. They
could draw graphs on butcher paper.

17
Technology Modifications
  • If there is only one computer the class can be
set up in centers. There will be four to six in
a group that will rotate. For example a group
can do book research while the other group does
computer research or is beginning to type their
    journals, or make graphs.
  • My ideal technology setting would be to have
enough computers in my classroom for each
student. That way they could use the computer
whenever it fit with an assignment, this would be
real integration. They could type an assignment
instead of writing it or they could send me and
e-mail if they had a question. It would also be
nice if I had enough digital cameras to loan out
to students. This way they would be able to take
pictures and it wouldnt take away from class
    time.

18
Addressing the Different Types of Technology?
  • This unit addresses technology in three ways. It
addresses technology as a subject. This is done
in lesson one by introducing the students to
e-mail. Typing an e-mail is the main focus of
their learning. In lesson three Kidspiration is
used to get the facts across. This method is
using technology as content delivery. In lesson
two technology is used as a lesson support. The
students are focusing on collecting and sorting
data. Making a table or graph is another
alternative to add to this lesson.

19
Addresses The enGauge 21st Century Skills
  • In lesson four the student are using Digital-Age
Literacy by learning to form a table in Microsoft
Word this helps them become technology literate.
  • The children can be introduced to Inventive
Thinking in lesson two. They will be conducting
their own research and come to their own
conclusion about how to be healthy based on their
    findings.
  • In lesson five the students will be using
Effective Communication. They will have to
interact with peers, and develop interpersonal
skills to come up with fun activities with their
group to get their heart rate up.
