1Sharing your desktop with Polycom PVX desktop
systems
DECS VC Lunchbox Professional Learning Activity
2Please mute your mic when not talking
If using PVX desktop system, click here
If using a room based system, press the mute
button
3Launch the Polycom PVX system before the VC
session starts
Click on the spanner icon to bring up settings
which need to be configured
Go to video and then select video protocol and be
sure all settings are selected as shown below
4Bandwidth considerationsIf you intend to share
data you can set a VC session for 128k and the
session will have 1. bandwidth shared between
video, audio and data. 2.Data will share at a
slower rate and video quality may suffer a
littleThe benefit is that sites with lower
bandwidth can participate effectively
5Setting a session at 192K or 256kThese
settings will provide the opportunity for
1.more rapid data share as well as 2. improved
picture qualityNot all sites may have this
bandwidth available and may compete at the local
level for bandwidth with the possibility of
dropping out of the session
It is a balancing act Choose carefully
6Lets share some data !When in session click on
the icon labelled as show desktop
The session ideally could be set to 192 PC Be
aware that it will take a few moments for the
content to be deployed clearly. Rendering may
take 7 10 seconds
7When data sharing beginsYou will see the
following tool bar at the top of your screen
Select the file to be shared and allow for
latency and ask participants if they can see what
is being shared It is not uncommon for a black
screen to be seen before the file is fully shared
Click this icon to cease sharing
8When sharing your desktop 1. Screen Graphics
and Text for Video Conferencing should be 36 pt
for the title2. Body text should be 24 pt
The experience of data sharing will only be as
good as what you can see
9Use Sans Serif font, eg Arial, Helvetica, Geneva.
These are easier to read
- You are not making a cake or a cocktail, so do
not mix fonts or styles too much - Eg, Bold, italics, underline
- AlSO ALL CAPITALS IS HARDER TO READ
10Do not overcrowd your page with text or
graphics. KISS, 7 lines per screen
- Remember the PIP ( Picture in Picture ) sits at
the bottom RHS. Keep this area free
