Mrs. Brooke for the first time?
6Remember when we were so happy to have a brand
new school with a cafeteria, climbing wall, and
so much more!
7Remember whenwe learned about a new character
trait each month, earned slips, had drawings on
Friday, and attended the end of the month award
assemblies?
8Remember whenwe ran in the jog-a-thon and
helped earn money for our school? What a run!
9Remember whenwe celebrated Halloween by
dressing up, parading around the gym, and having
fun stations with our 5th/6th buddies?

marble jar and earn parties like the Pinata and
Costume Party and the Scary Story and Smore party?
12Remember whenwe started each day by singing
Good Morning to You and then began our class
meeting? We went through the schedule, question
of the day, lunch money, calendar and pledge of
allegiance.
13Remember whenwe learned about different kinds
of communities? The mayor of Kirkland even
visited our classroom and taught us more about
the community we live in.

Service Projects and were written about in the
Kirkland Courier?

Superbowl and we made hats with our little
buddies in Mrs. Sanchezs Kindergarten class?

things in math including how to add and subtract
fluently, geometry, count money, measurement, and
how to solve word problems and explain our
thinking using pictures, numbers, words, and
check, and so much more!

21Remember whenwe had Star of the Week each week?
On Monday we shared our book, on Tuesday our
favorite memory, on Wednesday we brought our
favorite jokes, on Thursday our favorite song
(and all danced), and on Fridays told about our
hero. We learned so much about one another!
22Remember whenwe had Reading Workshop each day?
We would gather on the rug to discuss how to be a
better reader and then we would read
independently. Mrs. Brooke would conference with
us and then we would meet with our partners. We
also had fun in guided reading groups and
literature circles!
23Remember whenwe would have writing celebrations
each month and invite guests to come see our
published pieces?
24Remember whenwe found out we were getting
another teacher to help us for a couple months.
We welcomed Mrs. Enstrom to our class. She taught
us a lot and we helped her learn how to be a
great teacher!
25Remember whenBen Franklin visited our class? He
told us all sorts of interesting facts about his
life and we celebrated his 300th birthday!
26Remember whenwe celebrated Valentines Day? We
had fun creating Valentines TV, eating lots of
good food, and opening our valentines!
27Remember whenwe each chose a president to
research? We then created the President Wax
Museum when we came to school dressed as our
president. We were frozen until people pushed our
buttons and then we came alive! We were on King
5 and Komo 4 News! It was a great Presidents Day.

with Ms. Muller, the after school art teacher?
Our Picasso presidents turned out great with her
help!
30Remember whenRick Hartman, the toymaker visited
the second grade? He helped us use what we had
learned about balance and motion to make our own
toys!

artist each month during art? This year we
learned about Vincent VanGogh, Leonardo DaVinci,
Joan Miro, Michelangelo, Pablo Picasso, Georgia
OKeeffe, and Claude Monet.

Seuss with our guest speakers including Mr.
Brooke (aka Morgan)?
33Remember when we became authors and published
stories during Writing Workshop each month? We
shared our small moment stories at the Read
Across America event at Parkplace Books.
34Remember whenFergus, the leprechaun who showed
up and started playing pranks on us and leaving
notes everywhere? We made traps to try to catch
him, but he was too tricky for us!
35Remember whenwe helped in the cafeteria as part
of Kids Way Café?

visited booths, shared our country reports,
learned about other cultures, made school tools
kits and sang our song Hello, Around the World?

Growing Readers and nationally known educator
on teaching children how to read, came to our
classroom and helped us with our author studies?
There were more than 20 teachers in our room
watching us!

school and showed us his bug collection?
Remember we even discovered that we eat bugs
(lobsters, crabs, and shrimp are bugs!)

Pacific Science Center? We visited the Butterfly
House, the Insect Zoo, saw the Deep Sea IMAX
movie, and lots more!

41Remember whenwe learned about pebbles, sand,
and silt and how scientists sort rocks and then
we shared our rock collections?
42Remember whenwe performed GO FISH in front of
the whole school and then again at during our
night performance?
43Remember whenwe set goals in November with our
parents and Mrs. Brooke and then at the end of
the year we led our own conference. We showed our
parents all the progress we made in second grade.
It was our night to shine!
44Remember whenwe helped Jack meet his goal and
supported the research of Autism? Scott Ryan
spoke to us about the importance of raising money
and some of us even walked during the Walk for
Autism at Magnuson Park! We even got on Channel
13 news!
45Remember whenwe had our End of the Year Party
at Dairy Queen and South Rose Hill Park? We had
to go on a long walk, but had a great time
together.

47Remember whenMrs. Brooke read us the book, Leo
the Late Bloomer at the beginning of second
grade. Leo couldnt read, he couldnt write, he
couldnt draw, he couldnt speak, and he couldnt
even eat neatly. We read it again at the end of
second grade and he had bloomed all in his own
good time. Now Leo could read, write, draw, eat
neatly and even could speak. And when he spoke he
didnt just say a word, he said a whole
sentence. Leo said I made it! Many of us were
like Leo at the beginning of second grade, but
We Made it! We have worked so hard in second
grade. We were the best we could be and that is
all Mrs. Brooke ever asked of us. Now we leave
second grade taking all that we learned with us
to third grade. What a year! Lets always
remember the great times we had and the friends
that we made. Lets always remember when we had
a great Second Grade year!
