Currency Conversion within Databases
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU - Convert your databas

before you convert your data. - Analyse your Fiel
d Formats before you begin conversion.
GENERAL Converts Single Currencies at a t
ime not fields that have Multi-Currencies
intermixed. If you have fields formatted with
or etc., after conversion these symbols will
still be displayed i.e. these symbols are not
replaced by the euro symbol. You should reformat
these fields either before or after conversion.
HelloEURO would obviously rather convert fields
formatted as for example Double Integers where
decimals are allowed and not whole numbers,
because any number when converted to the euro,
will have decimal places.
87Things you should know before you use
HelloEUROs Currency Conversion within Ms Acces
s Databases
Convert via SQL Will convert to the maximum numbe
r of decimal places allowed by the underlying SQL
engine. Convert via Direct Access Will con
vert to the number of decimal places set by you
in the field 'Final number of decimal places to
round to' on the 'Run Conversion' screen.
Access 97 Close your Database before conversion
. Long Integer In the 'Universal Database Con
verter', on choosing 'Convert Via Direct Access',
you must set the ''Final number of decimal places
to round to' to 0 Decimal Ensure you set th
e 'Scale' in your Access design to whatever
number of decimal places you wish and if you
decide to 'Convert via Direct Access' ensure you
set the 'Final number of decimal places to round
to' to that number. Failing to do this will
result in an error as the database will try to
fit the result into the field and may fail e.g.
123.456 will not go into a field of decimal(3,2)
you should have rounded to 2 in this case.
Currency Percent Will be converted.
88Things you should know before you use
HelloEUROs Currency Conversion within Ms Access
Databases
Other Currency Fields All currency fields will be
displayed to a maximum of 4 decimal places. You
may have set the 'Final number of decimal places
to round to' to 6 yet it will only display to a
maximum of 4 after conversion. This is down to
how Access handles currency fields.
Field names greater than 30 Characters Will be
converted in 'MsAccess Converter' if you use
'Convert via Direct Access'. An error is
displayed using the other methods.
Text Some 'Text' fields may contain numbers, wh
ich need to be converted. HelloEURO will not
display these fields in Blue for conversion as it
reads them as strings. You must change your
format for these fields to something like Double
Integer. Euro-Local Using 'Convert via Direc
t Access', it uses the 'Final number of decimal
places to round to' to set its number of decimal
places to display to. Single Floating Point Nu
mber Field Format When for example 100.27 is ent
ered into a Database and then viewed in an
external application you can see
100.269996643066. This is because the single
floating point number stores as approximations.
This happens naturally, nothing to do with
