Objectives
  • Represent ones country as a good will ambassador
    by furthering of understanding and friendly
    relations among people of different nations.
  • Successfully complete one academic year of
    graduate studies abroad.
  • Increase awareness of and respect for cultural
    differences.

  • Instill in scholars the Rotary Ideal Of Service.
  • Develop leaders who can address the humanitarian
    needs of the world community
  • Encourage scholars to dedicate their personal and
    professional lives to improving the quality of
    life for people of their home communities and

    ends.

General Information
  •  
  • District Has Two Ambassadorial Scholarships
    Available
  • Flat grant of 25,000 to cover study for one
    academic year including tuition, transportation,
    reasonable room and board and some educational
    supplies.
  • Language requirement for study in non-English
    speaking countries. However, there are exceptions
    for language skills of native languages where
    coursework can be done in English such as Norway,
    Poland and other countries. In many countries
    such as France, Germany, Italy, Russia, and
    Spanish speaking countries, language proficiency
    is required.

  • While all fields of study are considered for
    scholarships, the Rotary Foundation encourages
    candidates to apply whose fields will have
    humanitarian impact.
  • Examples medicine, health care, mental health,
    food production and distribution, nutrition,
    population development, youth, family, urban
    studies/planning, environmental studies.

  •  
  • Students select countries and universities where
    they wish to attend. However, final decision to
    country assignment and approval of particular
    institution is made by the Rotary Foundation
    Board of Trustees.
  • Rotary encourages students to consider applying
    for study in third world countries. Give
    consideration to looking at study possibilities
    in Africa, Brazil, Southeast Asia or Eastern
    Europe.

Application Process
  • Application forms available on Rotary
    International Website.
  • Scholar Application to be submitted to a local
    Rotary Club.
  • Rotary Club screens application.
  • DEADLINE for Rotary Club to submit applications
    to District Scholarship Committee March 8, 2009.
  • District prescreens applications and schedules
    qualified students for interviews.
  • Selection Committee Interviews Sat. April 18,
    2009.
  • Location to be announced later.

  •  
  • Possesses excellent leadership skills.
  • Has proven record of academic success,
  • GPA 3.5 or better.
  • Is articulate and outgoing.
  • Has well defined and realistic goals.
  • Is well groomed and has a professional appearance.

  • Possesses maturity and seriousness of purpose.
  • Is an excellent public speaker.
  • Knows history, culture and current politics of
    his country and is familiar with current world
    issues.

  • Is diplomatic and articulate when discussing
    world affairs and sensitive topics.
  • Has thoroughly researched his/her preferred study
    institution including alternative locations
  • Is flexible and possesses a good sense of humor.

Education of All Rotarians
  • All Rotarians give names Tel. Numbers of
    interested students to club President for follow
    ups.
  • Scholarship information can be found on District
    Website www.rotary5790.org Click on Foundation,
    click on Ambassadorial scholarships.
  • All Rotarians should be able to tell students to
    check District Website for information.
  • All Rotarians should know the Rotary Club does
    not pay for Scholarships. Funds come from the
    Rotary Foundation.
  • All Rotarians should seek qualified students in
    their area.

Role of Rotary Club
  • 1. Establish a Rotary Foundation Scholarship
    Chair and committee of three people.
  • Publicize scholarship opportunities
  • In Local press
  • Through local high school counselors to alert
    their former students now in college.

  • 2. Publicize scholarship opportunities in local
    universities
  • Contact Deans of various schools or colleges.
  • Contact head of Academic Affairs
  • Contact University Provost.
  • Contact faculty members.
  • Contact chairs of honors programs, and/or
    leadership programs.

  • Distribute news releases to student newspapers.
  • Contact University International Honor Societies.
  • Contact person in charge of International
    students or study abroad programs.
  • Contact local ROTARACT Clubs.

  • 3. Prescreen applicants, setup local interviews
    with potential applicants. Submit only students
    who meet the qualifications. In General, one
    applicant per Rotary Club.Contact scholarship
    chair for any exceptions.
  • 4. Mentor your applicant by informing them about
    Rotary, discuss the details of the scholarship
    and provide them with good information. Review
    the application prior to submitting it to the
    District and make sure it is complete.
