What is a STOP error?

• A Stop error occurs when Windows stops
  responding. Stop error messages can be caused by
  H/W or S/W malfunctions.The error messages
  appear on a blue or black background, A.K.A Blue
  screen

• IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x0A
• This is the result of a buggy driver
• The driver attempts to access an illegal memory
  space
• Look for an updated driver
• Check your driver using http//support.microsoft.c

• UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP 0x7F
• A driver or subsystem has tried to execute an
  illegal processor instruction
• The cause can be a faulty memory module or a
  driver that has corrupted memory

• INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE 0x7B
• Windows cannot access the disk partition that
  boot.ini
• The cause can be an incompatible driver
• Obtain a different driver, use the Windows
  Recovery Console and replace the driver files

Analyzing STOP Errors

• First
• Disable Auto Restart (using F8)
• Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or
  shadowing
• Verify that your H/W device drivers and your
  system BIOS are the latest available versions

• Reboot your computer and start Windows(if
  possible)
• Check the System event log for additional error
  details
• If available use ERD Commander and do the same

Can I Examine The Dump Files?

• A Dump file is created at every STOP error

• Microsoft Kernel Debugger (Kd.exe)
• Microsoft WinDbg Debugger (Windbg.exe)

  (HCL)
• Verify that all hardware and software drivers are
  compatible with Windows
• Install all available patches and software
