• The Roman invasion of Europe began as far back as
  250 BC

• Emperor Claudius led the invasion of Britain in
  AD 43

• On landing, Claudius and his army marched
  steadily north

The Roman Army

• The Roman army was made up of legions

• One legion had over 5 000 men

• The legionary soldier was the backbone of the army

• Constant drill, long marches and heavy physical
  work kept the men fit

• When they invaded Britain, the Romans faced
  warrior Celts

The Changes brought to Britain by the Romans

• The Romans built up a network of excellent roads
  

• Forts and then towns were built, linked by the
  new roads

• They brought architects who built some
  magnificent buildings

• They encouraged trade throughout Europe and the
  Far East

• A visit to the baths

All were popular and some very bloodthirsty!
