The Shop

• The cobbler or the shoemaker has a small shop
  usually on a corner

First Step of Making The Shoe

• The cobbler first takes a wooden sole
• Then takes a leather strip and stretches it over
  the sole

Second Step of Making The Shoe

• The second step to make a shoe is to cut the
  pattern
• In the picture she is cutting the pattern

Third Step

• She is sewing the shoe with thread
• The tread is made of flax
• The flax is coated with pine tar to waterproof it
• The needle is made of a boars bristle

Fourth Step

• A hand tool called an awl is used to make holes
  in the leather for the cobbler to stitch the shoe
  together

Shoes for Sale

• Finished shoes are hung in the window before
  being sold
