  • When speaking alone and are introduced by someone

  • When speaking as a group
  • One group member should give introduction
  • Introduce all group members
  • Give brief overview of what will be presented
  • Provide transitions between speakers (Now Id
    like to turn things over to Karen who will be
    speaking about customer satisfaction.)

Effective Verbal Delivery(use words well)
  • Concrete wordsmost specific way to refer to
    something (Barbie vs. doll, Spaghetti vs. food)
  • Unbiased wordsdo not offend others both
    intentionally and unintentionally
  • Vivid wordsadd color to your language
    (descriptive wordslong snarly hair instead of
    hair)

  • Simple wordswords known to most people (avoid
    using big words when a smaller word will do just
    as well)
  • Correct wordsgrammatically correct, used with
    the proper meaning, etc.

Effective Nonverbal Delivery
  • Physicalgestures, movement, posture

    conversational, natural, vary your gestures)

    (should be purposeful, close to audience, not
    distracting)

  • Makes speaker appear trustworthy
  • Make sure to glance up many times during your
    speech, look at different people and not over
    their heads

  • Use of facial muscles to communicate
  • Look alert and friendly
  • Try not to be stone faced
  • Vary your facial expressions

  • You are giving a presentation so make sure to
    dress professionally!
  • Do not wear distracting clothing
  • (bright colors, loud patterns)
  • Do not wear hats, other
  • things on your head
